How to Connect ShippyPro to Returbo for Return Shipping Labels

How do I use ShippyPro with Returbo to generate return shipping labels?

If you have a ShippyPro account, you can use all of your existing carrier integrations in ShippyPro to generate return shipping labels directly inside Returbo. This guide walks you through everything you need to get set up, from configuring ShippyPro to connecting it in Returbo and choosing how labels are generated.

Before You Begin

Returbo uses the shipping rules and carrier connections you've already set up in ShippyPro. That means the heavy lifting happens in ShippyPro first — Returbo simply calls on it when it's time to generate a label.

Make sure you've done the following in ShippyPro before connecting it to Returbo:

  • Added your carrier integrations (e.g., PostNord, UPS, DHL)

  • Set up your shipping rules and conditions

  • Confirmed that your carriers are active and configured for return shipments

Step 1: Get Your ShippyPro API Key

You'll need your ShippyPro API key to connect the two platforms.

For instructions on how to find your API key, check:

Step 2: Add Your API Key in Returbo

  1. Open the Returbo app from your Shopify Admin

  2. Go to Settings → Integrations --> Shipping

  3. Scroll down to the ShippyPro section

  4. Enter your API key in the field provided

  5. Click Save

Returbo is now connected to your ShippyPro account.

Step 3: Choose How Labels Are Generated

Once ShippyPro is connected, scroll back up to the top of the Integrations page and choose how you'd like Returbo to handle return labels:

  • Automatic label generation: Returbo generates the label as soon as a return is approved, with no manual action needed

  • Manual label generation: You choose which shipping option to use for each return

Not sure which to pick? Read on there are some important differences in how ShippyPro works with each option.

Step 4: Set Up Tracking

When tracking is enabled, Returbo automatically moves a return from Incoming to Pending Approval as soon as it's been delivered to your location — no manual action needed.

To activate this, you need to add a webhook in ShippyPro. You only need to do this once.

Find Your Shopify Domain

You'll need your Shopify store URL to build the webhook URL.

  1. Log in to your Shopify Admin

  2. Click Settings in the bottom left corner

  3. Select Domains

  4. Your default .myshopify.com URL is listed here, along with any custom domains you have connected

Use the .myshopify.com URL — for example, josephines-clothes.myshopify.com.

Add the Webhook in ShippyPro

  1. Log in to your ShippyPro account

  2. Go to API in the navigation

  3. Find the Webhook block on the page

  4. Click Add Webhook

Fill in the fields as follows:

Webhook URL Change the prefix to https:// and enter:

returboapp.com/shopify/api/webhook/shippy-pro/tracking-update/[YOUR DOMAIN]

Replace [YOUR DOMAIN] with your Shopify store URL.

For example:

returboapp.com/shopify/api/webhook/shippy-pro/tracking-update/josephines-clothes.myshopify.com

Webhook Events Select Tracking Update

Retry Count Enter 1

Customer Header Click Add Customer Header, then fill in:

  • Key: X-Auth-Token

  • Value: (contact Returbo support at support@returbo.io to receive your token)

Click Save Webhook

If everything is filled in correctly, the webhook will save successfully. If it doesn't save, double-check that all fields are filled in exactly as shown above.

Step 5: Check Your Integration Rankings (If You Use Multiple Shipping Integrations)

If you have other shipping integrations active in Returbo, such as PostNord or DHL, in addition to ShippyPro, review your integration rankings.

The ranking determines which shipping integration Returbo tries first. Make sure ShippyPro is positioned correctly based on your preferences.

How ShippyPro Works with Automatic vs. Manual Label Generation

Automatic Label Generation

With automatic generation, Returbo calls ShippyPro's rate API to retrieve all available shipping options for a given return. Based on your rules and setup in ShippyPro, a number of carriers may be eligible.

If more than one option is available, Returbo will automatically select the one with the lowest rate for that specific return.

💡 This is different from how other Returbo integrations work. With most integrations, Returbo uses whichever product is ranked highest. With ShippyPro, it's always the lowest rate that wins.

Manual Label Generation

With manual generation, you stay in control of which label gets used.

Here's how it works:

  1. When a return reaches Request Submitted status, open the return in Returbo

  2. Select ShippyPro as the return shipping method

  3. Click Confirm and Generate Label

  4. A list of available shipping options will appear, including the carrier name and rate for each option

  5. Choose the best option for that specific return and confirm

Troubleshooting: Unable to Generate a Return Label

Sometimes Returbo won't be able to generate a label through ShippyPro. Here are the most common reasons and what to do about each.

The item has no weight

ShippyPro needs product weight information to calculate shipping rates. If a product has no weight set, automatic label generation won't be possible.

When this happens, the return will sit in Request Submitted status. You can add the missing weight directly in Returbo from there.

There's an issue with the customer's address

Address problems are one of the most common causes of label failures. The return will land in Request Submitted, where you can review and correct the address manually.

Common issues include:

  • Address line too long

  • Incorrect or outdated postcode

Tip for Swedish addresses: Use hitta.se rather than Google Maps to verify addresses — Google Maps can sometimes be out of date with recent postcode changes.

A ShippyPro setup or technical issue

If the problem is related to your ShippyPro configuration or a technical issue on their end, Returbo will display a specific error message. In this case, contact ShippyPro customer support directly for help resolving it.
