In some cases, there are bugs with the Apple Screen Time API that cause sync issues, leading to:
Apps not blocking during downtime or after limits are hit
Apps not unblocking after downtime is over
Apps not unblocking when you tap to "take a break"
If you are having issues, please try steps below. We apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your patience!
One small note: we've found that app blocking and unblocking works a little better when your phone is not in "Low Power Mode".
1. Reload app limits or downtime
Tap the "reload" icon on the top right, then tap the "Reload" button
If this doesn't work, continue to step 2.
2. Restart the Roots app
Open the App Switcher by swiping up and holding or double tapping the Home button
Swipe to the right or left to find Roots
Swipe up on Roots to close it
Open the Roots app again
If this doesn't work, continue to step 3.
3. Remove limits or downtime from iOS Screen Time
Go to "Settings" > "Screen Time"
Remove any existing app limits or downtime
Re-open the Roots app
Tap "Reload" on app limits and downtime
If this doesn't work, continue to step 4.
4. Restart your phone
Press and hold the side button until the power-off slider appears.
Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off
Press and hold the power button again
When the Apple logo appears, release the power button
If this doesn't work, continue to step 5.
5. Reload screen time permissions
Go to "Settings" > "Screen Time"
Scroll down and find "Roots"
Remove access by tapping the toggle
Re-open the Roots app
Give access to screen time permissions when prompted
If you tried all of this and it's still not working, please contact us — we'd love to pay you for your time and troubleshoot the issue further — thank you for your patience.
