How to do a Customer Analysis

A file should only include the zip codes and one zip code per customer, if you have 2 customers in the same zip code it should appear twice

If you are going to do your first Samhub Audience Analysis there are a few things you should think about and I will go through them here.

First off, you should create a Excel or CSV file from your CRM or payment system. This file should contain the customers you want to analyse. It can be your whole customer base or a selection from your customer base. Maybe you want to analyse your most loyal customers? Or the highest spending customers? Many of our customers analyse the complete customer base and then compare it to one or two selections, depending on what they want to learn. We recommend that you don’t go further back than one year as this is the most relevant data here and now.

We also say that you should have at least 1000 records to analyse, because we work with statistical data we want a good statistical foundation. Minimum is 100 customers to analyse, but the more customers, the better the results will represent your customer base.

Once you have a list of the customers you want to analyse you delete all the information besides the zip codes. So if you have done it right the list will contain only zip codes and one zip code per customer. So if two customers live in the same zip code this zip code should appear twice in the list.

Once we have analysed the file it is automatically deleted from our systems. This is to minimize data processing, even if it is anonymous data.

Common mistakes are:

  • That you upload information that is irrelevant and this can break the processing of the file. Make sure that you only include the zip codes.

  • Mixing different markets. This means that if you want to analyse Norway customers, this should be in a separate file and separate analysis. Don’t mix zip codes from different countries .

  • That every zip code only appear once. This is a common mistake, that you only represent the zip code once even if you have many customers in the same zip code. If you have multiple customers in the same zip code they should appear as many times in the list as you have customers in the zip code.
