You can switch from anywhere — no travel required. But there is one important thing to know first: you cannot do it with a USPS change-of-address.
Why a USPS forward won't work here
USPS will not let you set up an automatic redirect away from a mail forwarding address. Any mail forwarding service — your current provider and SavvyNomad alike — is a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA), and USPS does not forward mail from one CMRA to another. Chaining forwards between mail services would put a significant burden on USPS, so instead they require you to update your address directly with each sender.
This is a USPS rule rather than a SavvyNomad policy, and it applies no matter which provider you are leaving.
What to do instead
Update your address directly with everyone who sends you mail. All of this can be done online or by phone from wherever you are:
Banks, brokerages, and credit card issuers
Insurance providers and retirement accounts
Your employer or payroll provider
Government agencies — the IRS, the DMV or DPS, Social Security, the VA
Subscriptions, memberships, and anything else that still mails you something
A practical way to build your list
Before you close your old account, look back through the mail your current service has already received for you. That history is the most reliable list of who is actually still mailing you — far better than working from memory.
We also recommend keeping your current service active during the transition. Senders update their records at different speeds, and leaving the old address running for a while means nothing gets lost while the changes catch up.
When a USPS change-of-address does work
