Usually not. In most cases mail stops arriving for a reason outside your account — a name mismatch, a lapsed USPS forwarding order, or simply the longer processing time that applies to your residential address.
Work through the checks below in order. They are arranged roughly from most to least common.
1. Check that your 1583 is complete and error-free
We cannot legally accept mail for you until your USPS Form 1583 is complete and approved. Open your portal and confirm there are no outstanding errors or missing items on the form. In the event that there is an error, a popup will appear when you log into the customer portal to notify you.
2. Check the name the mail was sent to
Mail must be addressed to your name exactly as it appears on your 1583, or to an alias you listed on the form. USPS rules do not allow us to accept mail addressed to a name that isn't on file — a maiden name, a nickname, a middle initial that doesn't match, or a business name you haven't added.

3. Check whether your 1583 has expired
A 1583 does not last forever — it expires on the same date as the photo ID you used. If you used your passport, for example, your 1583 expires the same day your passport does. If your 1583 has expired, you will see a red banner in your portal telling you so. If that banner is showing, completing a new 1583 is what restores your mail service.
4. Check whether a USPS change-of-address has lapsed
If your mail was reaching us through a USPS change-of-address order, that order may simply have run out. USPS forwarding does not last indefinitely — typically up to one year.
When it lapses, mail stops being redirected and goes back to your old address instead. The fix is to update your address directly with each sender, so your mail comes to us without relying on a forward. See How do I update or cancel my USPS automatic mail forward?
5. Check which of your addresses it was sent to
If the item was sent to your residential address, it has a much longer processing time than mail sent to your mailing address. Every item arriving at the residential address has to be forwarded to the mail facility before we can process it, which can take up to 10 business days before it appears in your account.
So an item that looks missing may simply still be in transit. If you have a mailing address on your plan, it is always the faster option for everyday mail.
Still can't find it? Send us the tracking number
If you have tracking information for the missing item, send it to us. Tracking is by far the fastest way for us to narrow down where an item actually is, and whether it reached us at all.
