If a ScribbleVet note has been in the “Scribbling…” state for more than 5 minutes, it needs troubleshooting. The two most common fixes are refreshing the app and deleting any untitled or inaudible recordings from the visit
Note: Normal scribbling finishes in under 5 minutes; usually within 1–2 minutes. Anything that is taking longer is worth troubleshooting and then reaching out to the Support team for help. |
How to troubleshoot a note stuck in “Scribbling…” mode
Try these in order:
Wait up to 5 minutes. "Scribbling…" means the note is still processing.
Cancel the Scribble and try again
Select the X next to “Scribbling…” to cancel the process.
Force close and reopen ScribbleVet, or hard refresh the website with Cmd+R (Mac) / Ctrl+R (Windows).
Check your internet connection, then reload ScribbleVet.
Check that ScribbleVet is updated to the latest version via your device's app store, or your browser settings, if using the web version. See Compatible Devices for more details.
Open the appointment in ScribbleVet and check for any untitled or inaudible recordings. Deleting these recordings will allow the note to finish scribbling. Always delete recordings from the original device used to make the recording.
To delete a recording from a browser:
Expand the Transcript section of the appointment.
Select Recordings and identify any that are untitled, inaudible, or with an unusually short duration (like 0:04). An incomplete audio file can block the visit from scribbling.
Click the three dots (⋮) next to the recording and select Delete. The deletion may take a few seconds. After you delete the recording, the note will begin scribbling.

7. Open ScribbleVet on a different device (phone, computer, or tablet) to rule out a device-specific issue.
Tip: If you regularly see "untitled" recordings, close out any other app that uses the microphone before you start a ScribbleVet recording. Apps like Zoom, Siri, Google Assistant, or social media apps using the microphone are a common cause of empty or partial audio files. |
Prevent delays before they happen
A few quick habits to keep recordings clean and processing fast:
Keep your microphone volume above 60%.
Stay 6–12 inches from the microphone while speaking.
Close apps that use your device’s microphone before starting a recording—those apps can keep control of the mic.
Stay within the 3-hour per-session recording limit. ScribbleVet automatically stops recording at the 3-hour mark. You will need to press Record to start a new recording (you can record as many times as needed within a single appointment).
Keep the ScribbleVet app up to date.
Frequently asked questions
How long should "Scribbling…" normally take? Under 5 minutes—usually 1–2. Anything beyond that needs troubleshooting.
What do I do if the “Delete” option is grayed out? If the option to delete the recording is gray/unavailable, try using the mobile app to delete the recording. If the note is still uploading, we recommend keeping the app open on the device where the recording was made until the upload process is complete, as well as checking that the device’s internet connection is strong and stable.
Why is there an "Untitled" or "Inaudible" recording on my visit? This usually happens when the microphone was held by another app (commonly Zoom), the recording was very short, or no usable audio was captured. Delete the Untitled or Inaudible recording to allow the note to finish scribbling
My recording shows that it’s only a few seconds long, but my exam was much longer. What happened? The audio file didn't capture properly—most often because another app was using the microphone. Delete the short recording and start a new recording with all other audio apps fully closed.
Will I lose my notes if I delete a stuck recording? You'll only delete the audio file that's blocking the visit. Any other recordings and the transcript already attached to the appointment stay intact. Recordings are available to review and download for up to 90 days. It is highly recommended to play recordings before deleting them to ensure the correct recordings are being deleted. Once a recording is deleted, it cannot be recovered.
