Making an Emergency Phone Call

Call 911 or Poison Control directly from SDS Mobile™ in an emergency.

Written by Jason Ries

SDS Mobile™ lets you call 911 or Poison Control, within the United States, in an emergency without leaving the app.

  • Call 911 dials 911.

  • Call Poison Control dials the nationwide Poison Help line, 1-800-222-1222. It's free, confidential and available 24 hours a day within the United States.

Important: The emergency call buttons and their phone numbers are for United States users and callers only.

How to make an emergency phone call

  1. Tap the phone icon in the top-right corner of the screen. You can also tap Emergency Phone Call on the Menu tab.

  2. In the Emergency Phone Call window, choose who to call:

    • Call 911: for life-threatening emergencies, such as someone who has collapsed, is having trouble breathing, is having a seizure, or has a serious injury.

    • Call Poison Control: for exposures to a chemical or other hazardous product, such as swallowing it, inhaling it, or getting it on the skin or in the eyes, when the person is awake and breathing normally.

  3. Your phone places the call.

  4. To close the window without calling, tap Cancel.

Tips for a faster response

  • Give your exact location. Tell the 911 dispatcher your full address and where you are on site, such as the building, floor or area.

  • Have the Safety Data Sheet ready. If you can, open the product's SDS in SDS Mobile™ before or during the call. Section 4 (First-Aid Measures) and the product name, manufacturer and ingredients help responders give the right advice.

  • Keep the product container nearby. The label has information Poison Control may ask for.

  • When in doubt, call 911. If the person is unconscious, not breathing, or having a seizure, call 911 rather than Poison Control.
