How do I set up multi-currency for shareholder payments?

You can enable multiple currencies in Sharesies Private to support shareholders who prefer to receive dividend payments in different currencies.

These settings control how payments are made, including whether amounts are converted and what bank account formats are accepted.

What multi-currency is used for

Multi-currency settings determine:

  • Which currencies your company supports

  • Whether payments are converted before being made

  • What bank account formats are accepted (local or international)

These settings directly affect how dividend payments are processed.

Add a currency to your company

Before a currency can be used, you’ll need to add it:

  • Go to Administration

  • Select Multi-currency

  • Click Add currency

Set up a currency

When adding a currency, you’ll configure the following:

Currency

  • Select the currency you want to add.

  • This will be added to your company’s list of supported currencies.

  • We currently support:

    • NZD

    • AUD

    • CAD

    • EUR

    • MXN

    • SGD

    • USD

    • GBP

    • PHP

    • CLP

    • PGK

    • AED

    • QAR

Is converted:

Choose whether payments should be converted into this currency:

  • Converted – payments will be converted into this currency before being made

  • Non-converted – payments will remain in the original currency

Important:
Conversion only occurs when:

  • A shareholder selects this currency as their preferred payment currency, and

  • The currency is enabled as a converted currency by the company

Supported bank account format:

Choose which types of bank account formats are accepted:

  • Local only – domestic accounts only

  • International only – foreign accounts only

  • Local and international – both supported

Make sure this matches the types of bank accounts your shareholders will provide.

How this affects dividend payments

Multi-currency settings work alongside your dividend and payment setup:

  • Shareholders can nominate their preferred payment currency

  • The system checks if that currency is supported by your company

  • If enabled, payments may be converted automatically before payment

  • Payments are then included in the appropriate bank payment file or manual process

Bank account format considerations

Not all currencies support both local and international formats.

For example:

  • NZD (NZ) may support local and international formats

  • Some currencies may only support international formats depending on jurisdiction

Make sure your currency settings align with how you intend to pay shareholders.

Tips

  • Only enable currencies you intend to support

  • Review shareholder preferences before enabling conversion

  • Ensure bank account formats align with supported currencies

  • Check your currency settings before generating payment files
