No Index settings

By using Smart SEO you can add a No Index tag to specific types of pages. E.g. search query pages, tagged collections and tagged blog pages, for example.

In the No Index Settings page, you can set a No Index tag for global tagged pages that Google normally would consider as duplicates of another page in your store:

  • No Index On Search Pages

  • No Index On Collection Tag Pages

  • No Index On Blog Tag Pages

  • No Index On Vendor Search Pages

We recommend keeping all of these enabled. Only disable them if you have an SEO specialist who specifically needs those pages indexed.

If you want to add a noindex tag to your products, collections, or other pages, you can do that in SmartSEO -> Indexing -> Sitemap by excluding or including them.

Excluding a page here does two things:

  1. Removes the page's URL from your sitemap.xml

  2. Adds a noindex tag ( <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> ) to that page's HTML, telling search engines not to index the page or follow its links

If the page is already indexed, adding the noindex tag alone won't remove it immediately; Google needs to recrawl the page first. To speed this up, you can use the Removals tool in Google Search Console to temporarily hide the page from search results (up to ~6 months) while Google recrawls and picks up the noindex tag for permanent removal.
