SmartRent Resident Mobile App 3.0 is Here!
SmartRent is committed to providing exceptional experiences to both our residents and clients. We’ve spent the last 9+ months revamping the Resident App, and conducting multiple betas to refine the user experience. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and as of today, SmartRent Resident Mobile App 3.0 is publicly available through Google Play and the App Store. Highlights include:
Modern aesthetic and reorganization for easier navigation
Dark Mode support for users that prefer that look and feel
Updated thermostat controls for more precise adjustments and easier scheduling
Additional functionality for users with multiple units
A customized experience for users without hubs
Under-the-hood improvements to make the app more robust
More details can be found below. We have also put together some FAQs and ask that you share this flyer with your residents.
THE APP HAS A CLEANER FIRST IMPRESSION AND SUPPORTS DARK MODE
We’ve updated the home screen to be more refined and representative of how SmartRent has “grown up”. The app will also match the user’s system display settings with a Dark Mode option (cannot be enabled directly through the app at this time).
NAVIGATION IS CONSISTENT BETWEEN IOS AND ANDROID
The iOS app previously displayed the menu on the lower right, while the Android app used a hamburger menu on the top left corner. Both apps will now use the same bottom right menu for consistency and ease of use.
ICONS HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED AND INCLUDE ANIMATIONS
Similar to our updated homepage, the icon design is more refined. The addition of animation makes them more visually engaging and helps the user more easily identify when an action is underway.
THE THERMOSTAT CONTROLS HAVE BEEN UPDATED
Thermostats are the feature that is most referenced in the Google Play and App Store reviews. People often confused the center number for the actual temperature of their home; however, this was really the temperature at which their thermostat was set. To reduce confusion, we redesigned the screen and made the current temperature of the home the focal point. We also:
Replaced the slider with up and down arrows to increase precision and simplicity
Moved all settings to one screen so the user can view the big picture
Changed to words, instead of icons for clarity around Modes and Fans
External beta testers have been very fond of the new thermostat controls. Mentioning specifically, “I like this new layout a lot more! Easier to view and understand.”
THE SCHEDULE CREATION PROCESS HAS BEEN IMPROVED
Users were provided little guidance on the process of creating a Schedule. It was also difficult to understand and review the Schedules that were currently in place. The Schedule creation screen now clearly explains which feature they are viewing and any opportunities to take action.
In addition, results and existing schedules read more naturally, showing on which days and times each schedule will occur.
THE UNIT SWITCHING EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN IMPROVED
The More panel has a cleaner design which makes it easier to understand which unit the user is viewing. In addition, when a user signs in to the app for the first time they will be asked to select a unit. Future sign-ins will default to the last home viewed.
THE EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN CUSTOMIZED FOR USERS WITHOUT HUBS
Currently, we do not adjust the user experience when a resident doesn’t have a hub. We simply show blank screens when there is functionality that is not available to them. We have now removed those blank screens.
Residents in IoT Communities will see the full Navigation bar, including Scenes.
Residents in Communities that only have Alloy Access will not see Scenes as an option.
Residents in Communities that don’t have a Hub or Alloy Access will receive a special message letting them know that they will not benefit from the app and should visit the Resident Portal. The current use case for this is a user in a community that only offers Alloy Parking.
We are thrilled to offer residents a new, modern experience!
