Each social media network will have its own requirements for what kind of content they allow.

While you might have found a happy medium that works for you brand by now, it's important to be aware of the limitations and possibilities when experimenting with new types of posting.

Below we have listed the specific requirements and limits for each of the social media networks you can post through via SocioConnect.


Facebook

For optimal visibility, Facebook posts should aim for 1200x630 pixels with a 1.91:1 aspect ratio.

Square images (1080x1080) and portrait images (1080x1350) are also suitable.

The maximum file size for shared images is 8MB.

Facebook Posting Requirements In Detail

Image Dimensions & Aspect Ratios:

  • General: 1200 x 630 pixels (1.91:1 aspect ratio).

  • Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels (1:1).

  • Vertical: 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5).

  • Link Images: 1200 x 630 pixels (1.91:1).

Additional Details For Facebook Posting:

  • File Size: Maximum 8MB.

  • File Type: JPG, PNG, GIF are recommended.

  • Aspect Ratio: While Facebook will resize, an aspect ratio between 9:16 and 16:9 is ideal.

  • Resolution: At least 1080px x 1080px is recommended.

  • Video:

    • Reels & Stories: 1080 x 1920 pixels.

    • General: Videos should be uploaded in a high resolution, with at least one side reaching 1080 pixels.

    • Duration: No longer than 30 minutes.

    • Bit Rate: Up to 45 Mbps for 4K videos, with a general recommendation of 25-60 Mbps.

Best Practices:

  • Keep it Simple: Clean creatives with minimal text are generally more effective.

  • Recognisable Images: Use images that are easily recognisable.

  • Consistent Colour Scheme: Maintain a consistent colour scheme across posts.

  • Consider the "20% Rule": While no longer strictly enforced, the 20% rule suggests that no more than 20% of an ad's image should be occupied by text.


Instagram

For Instagram posts, the ideal aspect ratio is 1:1 (square) at 1080x1080 pixels, or 1.91:1 (landscape) at 1080x566 pixels.

Vertical posts should have a 4:5 aspect ratio and be sized at 1080x1350 pixels

Instagram Posting Requirements In Detail

File Size

  • The maximum file size for shared images is 8MB.

  • For video uploads, the maximum files size is 1GB, the minimum duration is 3 seconds, and maximum duration 15 minutes.

Square

  • Any square image or video (same width and height), e.g. 600 x 600 pixels, 800 x 800 pixels, 1200 x 1200 pixels

Portrait

  • 800 x 1000 pixels (aspect ratio 0.8)

  • 1200 x 1500 pixels (aspect ratio 0.8)

  • 1500 x 1800 pixels (aspect ratio 0.84)

  • 1080 x 1920 pixels (aspect ratio 0.56)

Landscape

  • 800 x 600 pixels (aspect ratio 1.33)

  • 1200 x 800 pixels (aspect ratio 1.5)

  • 1500 x 1200 pixels (aspect ratio 1.25)

X (Twitter)

For X (formerly Twitter), posts are limited to 280 characters.

While you can include photos, GIFs, and videos in your posts, the text message itself must stay within the character limit.

Key Requirements For X Posting:

  • Character Limit: Posts are limited to 280 characters, including links and mentions.

  • Conciseness: Keep your message short and to the point to capture attention quickly.

  • Media: You can include up to 4 photos, 1 GIF, or 1 video (or a combination) in a single post.

  • Video Length: Uploaded mobile videos have a maximum length of 2 minutes and 20 seconds.

  • Hashtags: Use 1-2 relevant hashtags to categorize content and increase visibility.

  • Link Shortening: Use link shortening services to save space, especially when including links.

Aspect Ratio Requirements For X Posts:

  • Landscape Format: Between 320x180 (minimum) and 1280x720 (maximum)

  • Portrait Format: Between 180x320 (minimum) and 720x1280 (maximum)

  • Square Format: Between 240x240 (minimum) and 720x720 (maximum)

🎥 Subscribed users on X can upload 1080p video and get 1080p playback. Unsubscribed users are limited to 720p uploads and playback.


LinkedIn

For text posts on LinkedIn, the ideal length is between 1,500 and 2,000 characters, with a maximum of 3,000.

Image posts should be at least 1200 x 627 pixels, while video posts can range from 256 x 144 pixels to 4096 x 2304 pixels.

Text Post Requirements For LinkedIn Posts:

  • Character Limit: 3000 characters.

  • Ideal Length: Posts between 1,500 and 2,000 characters are generally considered optimal for engagement on LinkedIn.

Image Post Requirements For LinkedIn Posts:

  • Single Image: 1200 x 627 pixels.

  • Multi-Image Posts (Square): 1080 x 1080 pixels.

  • Multi-Image Posts (Portrait): 1920 x 1080 pixels.

  • Carousel Posts: 1080 x 1080 pixels or 1920 x 1080 pixels.

  • Minimum Image Size: A minimum of 552 x 276 pixels is recommended for best visibility.

  • Maximum Image Size: The maximum image size is 5MB.

Video Post Requirements For LinkedIn Posts:

  • Video Size: 256 x 144 pixels (minimum) to 4096 x 2304 pixels (maximum).

  • Video File Size: 75KB to 200MB.

  • Maximum Video Length: 10 minutes.


Google Business

Google Business Post Requirements:

  • Recommended Size: 720x 540pixels (4:3 aspect ratio)

  • Minimum Size: 480x 270 pixels

  • Maximum Size: 2120x 1192 pixels

  • File Size: Between 10kb (minimum) and 5mb (maximum)
