Student Messaging: How To Send a Message

How to select recipients if student messaging is enabled.

Updated this week

Once your district has enabled student messaging at your TalkingPoints school and students have successfully joined TalkingPoints, you can easily message family contacts (the default), students, or family contacts and students depending on your context and needs. Follow the steps below to choose your recipients.

From the home page:

Step 1: Click on 'New Message' and choose an announcement or direct message.

Step 2: Search and select students from the list or by typing in their names.

Step 3: Use the filter dropdown menu to select students (confirmed student contacts) or students and family contacts. This filter will always be set to family contacts by default.

Step 4: Write your message and click 'Schedule' or 'Send'

From an individual student's message thread:

By default, an individual student's message thread will show messages to and from all contacts (family contacts and student contacts)

Step 1: Click on 'Student & all (x number) contacts'

Step 2: Select the recipients for your message

Step 3: Write your message and click 'Schedule' or 'Send'

Please note: Students are not eligible for shared messaging even if it is enabled. If you are sending a message to all contacts (family contacts and student contacts), family contacts can continue to use shared messaging, but students will not be part of the shared messaging experience.
