Set your organization's school year start date and choose whether teachers can access messages from previous school years.
The School Year settings determine how message filters are displayed throughout TalkingPoints. When a new school year begins, the default Messages view updates to show conversations from the current school year. Previous messages remain available and can be viewed using the school year filter.
From this page, you can:
Set the start date for each new school year
Review previous school year start dates
Choose whether teachers can view messages from previous school years
Note: These settings affect message filters throughout TalkingPoints for your organization.
Update the School Year Start Date 🗓️
Select Settings.
Select School Year.
In School Year Start Date, enter the first day of your new school year.
Select Save.
The updated start date will be reflected in the message filters used throughout TalkingPoints.
Allow Teachers to View Previous School Year Messages 💬
If you'd like teachers to access conversations from previous school years:
Select Settings.
Select School Year.
Check Allow all staff with teacher-level access to see their prior years' messages.
Select Save.
Teachers will then be able to switch their Messages view to a previous school year using the date filter.

The School Year page also displays the configured start dates for previous school years, making it easy to confirm how message filters are organized over time.
