Why Did My Messages Disappear? View Previous School Year Messages

Learn how to view and respond to messages from previous school years by changing your message date filter in TalkingPoints.

For: Teachers and Non-rostered Staff

At the start of each new school year, TalkingPoints automatically updates your message view to show conversations from the current school year. Messages from previous school years are not deleted—they're simply filtered from your default view to help keep your inbox focused on current students and families.

If you need to reference or reply to an older conversation, you can switch your message filter to a previous school year at any time.

Note: Your district or school must allow teachers access to previous school year messages for these filter options to appear.

If you do not see the previous year when taking the steps below, it's most likely because your institution did not provide you with the ability to see previous school year messages.

How to View Messages from a Previous School Year (Web) 💬

  1. Select Messages from the left navigation.

  2. Select the ••• (More) menu at the top of the Messages page.

  3. Select Filter messages by date.

  4. Choose the school year you'd like to view (for example, July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026).

Your Messages view will update to display conversations from that school year.

Return to the Current School Year 🔄

When you're finished viewing archived conversations:

  1. Open the ••• (More) menu.

  2. Select Clear (or choose the current school year filter, if available).

Your inbox will return to showing messages from the current school year.

Good to Know 💡

  • Previous school year messages remain available—they are filtered, not deleted.

  • You can continue responding to conversations from previous school years if your district's permissions allow access.

  • Many TalkigPoints partners have a school year filter date of July 1 and on that date, TalkingPoints automatically updates your default message view to the new school year.
