Common errors when posting and how to fix them

Why a scheduled post can fail to publish, and how to fix it.

Most publishing errors come from the browser connection between Taplio and LinkedIn, or from the media attached to the post. Go through the checks below in order.

To see which posts failed, open Post schedule and choose Errors in the Scheduled posts dropdown at the top right.

  1. Is Taplio Connect installed? If your post fails, the most common reason is that the Taplio Connect extension isn't installed. Install it, then try posting again.

  2. Are you logged into Taplio and LinkedIn in the same browser? Taplio needs both to be open in the same Chrome browser to post reliably.

  3. Refresh your Taplio connection. The connection can expire if you don't use both platforms regularly. Open LinkedIn in the browser where Taplio Connect is installed. Then go to Taplio Settings (General tab) and click Refresh next to your LinkedIn connection (or Connect if it shows as disconnected). See How do I reconnect or refresh my LinkedIn connection in Taplio?

Give it a few minutes to sync, then try again.

  4. Did the post include mentions, or was it for a company page? These posts are published through Taplio Connect. Refresh your Taplio connection as explained above.

  5. Did the post include images? If a post with media fails, it's usually a connection issue. Uninstall and reinstall Taplio Connect, then refresh your Taplio connection as explained above.

  6. Did the post include a PDF or a video? PDFs and videos are processed through the extension, which can fail if your LinkedIn cookies have expired. Keep a LinkedIn tab open and schedule a test post. If the test fails too, the problem is probably the file itself. See the media checks below.

Media checks

  • Wait for the upload to finish. While a file (PDF, video or image) is uploading, its icon below the composer turns into a spinning circle. Schedule the post or use Post now only once the upload is complete.

  • Check the file name and size. File names with spaces, underscores, symbols, emojis or accents can cause errors. See our Posting guidelines for supported file types, sizes and naming rules.

  • PDFs: the file may have a compression or encoding issue. Compress or convert it with a tool like smallPDF.com, then try again.

  • Videos: the encoding may not be supported. Convert the video with a tool like freeconvert.com/mp4-converter, then try again.

  • Images: in rare cases an image has an encoding or type issue. Save it again and re-upload it.

These combinations are not supported:

Multiple videos

Video + mentions

Video + image

Video + PDF

Multiple PDFs

PDF + images
