Automatic absence notifications

How Teach 'n Go notifies contacts when a student is marked absent, and how to configure this.

Written by Abdullah Al-Hussein

Teach 'n Go can automatically notify a student and their related contacts the moment they are marked absent from a lesson. This article explains how the notification works and how to turn it on or off.

If you don't see the Settings section below, ask your admin to check your permissions.

How it works

The notification fires immediately when an absence is recorded — there is no scheduled sending time. As soon as a staff member marks a student as absent, the notification goes out.

Notification channels

Three channels are available: push notification, email, and SMS.

  • Push notifications are on by default.

  • Email and SMS are off by default — you must turn them on explicitly.

Configuring the notification

  1. Go to Settings → Communication → Automatic notifications.

  2. Find the notification labelled "A student is marked as absent".

  3. Toggle the channels you want to use (push, email, SMS).

  4. Save.

Message wording and language

The notification message is fixed — you cannot edit the wording. It is available in English and Spanish only. The language sent to each recipient matches their portal language setting.

Who receives the notification

The notification is sent to the student and any related contacts (e.g. parents) who have a portal account and have notifications enabled on their device or profile.
