Connecting Claude to Teach 'n Go

How to connect Claude to your school so you can ask about your own data in a Claude chat. Pro only, admins only, and read-only.

Written by Abdullah Al-Hussein

The Teach 'n Go connector lets you ask Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, questions about your school's own data from inside a Claude chat. It uses the same answers as Ask AI, so you can combine your school's figures with everything else you do in Claude.

AI connectors are in beta and are part of Teach 'n Go Pro. Only school admins can connect, and the connector can read your data but never change it.

Your school may use different names for students, teachers and classes. If you don't see the menu items below, ask your admin to check your permissions.

Before you start

  • Pro plan: your school needs to be on Teach 'n Go Pro

  • Admin role: you need to be an admin of the school you want to connect

  • Claude account: you need a Claude account that can add custom connectors

Turning on AI connectors for your school

AI connectors are off by default. An admin turns them on once for the whole school.

  1. Go to Settings → School settings → Edit school.

  2. Open the AI connectors tab.

  3. Turn on Allow AI connectors.

The same tab lists every connection at your school, with who connected it and when it was last used.

Adding Teach 'n Go to Claude

  1. In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors.

  2. Click Add, then Custom connector.

  3. Enter a name, such as Teach 'n Go, and the URL https://app.teachngo.com/mcp.

  4. Leave the authentication settings as Claude detects them, then click Add.

  5. Click Connect. A Teach 'n Go page opens in your browser.

  6. Sign in with your usual Teach 'n Go email and password if you are asked to.

  7. Choose the school you want to connect, then click Allow.

You are sent back to Claude, and the connector shows as connected. Each connection covers one school. To use a second school, add the connector again under a different name and choose the other school.

Schools that can't be connected are greyed out on the consent page, with the reason underneath, for example Needs the Pro plan.

Asking questions

Start a new chat in Claude, turn on the Teach 'n Go connector from the tools menu, and ask in your own words. For example:

  • How many active students do we have?

  • Who owes us money?

  • What lessons are on next Monday?

  • Which teachers are free on Friday at 3pm?

  • How many enquiries did we get this month, and where did they come from?

Claude decides which of your school's figures to look up, and it can combine several lookups in one answer.

What Claude can see

Claude can read the same areas as Ask AI: students and contacts, your schedule, attendance, classes, and money. It sees only the school you chose, and only what your own account is allowed to see in Teach 'n Go.

  • Read-only: Claude cannot add, edit or delete anything in Teach 'n Go

  • One school per connection: Claude cannot switch to another school, even if you are an admin there too

  • Your Claude account's terms apply: the answers Claude reads become part of your Claude conversation, under the data settings of your Claude account

Names and notes are shown as typed by your school. Claude treats them as data, so a student note that reads like an instruction is never acted on.

Disconnecting

You can disconnect at any time from either place:

  • Your own connections: click your name (top-right) → My account → Connected apps tab, then click Disconnect

  • Every connection at your school: in the AI connectors tab, disconnect one connection, or turn off Allow AI connectors to disconnect everyone at once

A connection also ends automatically when the person who connected it changes their password or is no longer an admin of the school. If your school leaves Pro, the connector stops answering until Pro is back.

Limits

Each lookup Claude makes counts towards your school's daily API allowance, shared with the Teach 'n Go API. Each connection can also make up to 60 lookups a minute, which is far more than a normal conversation needs.
