Add, View, or Edit Attachments

Attachments provide visual references to help utility members and locators identify the marked excavation area on the map.

Important:

Attachments are supplemental and do not replace required driving directions or worksite instructions.


Attachment Requirements

  • Supported file types: .jpg, .jpeg, .png

  • Maximum file size: 5 MB

Additional note:

Files larger than 5 MB cannot be uploaded in the Portal. To add larger files, contact Texas811 for assistance.

Error Messages You May See:

  • “Accepted file types include .jpg, .jpeg, .png”

  • “File type is not allowed / File type is too large”


Add Attachments

When Creating a Ticket

  1. Select Upload File (top right corner above the map)

  2. In the Attached Files window, select Upload

  3. Select the file

  4. Select Open

On an Existing Ticket

  1. Open Ticket Details

  2. Select View → Attachments

  3. In the Attached Files window, select Upload

  4. Enter a Name and Description

  5. Select the file and select Open

  6. Select Save

Important:

  • Files display as Ready to Upload before they can be saved

  • Invalid file types or sizes will show an error and cannot be saved

  • Attachment fields have character limits (Name and filename: 255 characters; Description: 1000 characters)


View Attachments

  1. Open Ticket Details

  2. Select View → Attachments

  3. Select the file name to download and view


Edit Attachments

  1. Open Ticket Details

  2. Select View → Attachments

  3. Select the attachment

  4. Select Edit

  5. Update the Name and/or Description

  6. Select Save

The number shown next to “Attached files” is system-generated and does not impact your ticket or attachments.

Alternatively, email your attachment to maps@texas811.org.

Subject line: ADD ATTACHMENT

Include the following in your email:

  • Company name

  • Name and phone number

  • Ticket number

Our team will promptly assist you with adding the attachment.

⚠️ Warning:

If a ticket number is not provided, you will receive a no-reply email asking you to resend your attachment with the ticket number.


Best Practices

  • Use attachments to supplement ticket instructions, not replace them.

  • Always include clear and accurate driving directions

  • Ensure images clearly show the marked work area
