How to Connect Google Ads as a Data Source

Updated over a week ago

Connecting your Google Ads account to Tinkery allows you to centralize campaign performance data, making it easy to analyze and optimize your marketing efforts. Follow these steps to set it up:

1. Go to the Data Sources Module

Click the 📄 Data Sources icon (5th from the top) in the left-hand navigation bar.

2. Click “+ Create Data Source”

You’ll find this button in the top-right corner of the Data Sources view.

3. Choose Google Ads

From the list of available data source types, select Google Ads.

4. Type Your Source Name

Enter a custom name for your Google Ads data source.

✅Tip: Use descriptive names (e.g., “Google Ads – Q3 Campaigns”) to make it easier to identify later.

Click Setup Source to continue.

5. Grant Access to Tinkery

You’ll be redirected to a secure Google login screen for authentication.

  • Select the Google account linked to your Google Ads data.

  • Click Allow when prompted to give Tinkery the necessary permissions to pull data from your Google Ads account.

Note: Tinkery only accesses the data you authorize and does not modify your Google Ads campaigns.

7. You’re Connected!

Once the connection is successful, your Google Ads data source will appear in your Data Sources list.

‼️Important:

Connecting a data source does not automatically link it to a Project. To start working with your Google Ads data, you’ll need to link the data source to an existing project or create a new project.

Best Practices

  • Use an account with full campaign access to ensure all relevant metrics and dimensions can be pulled into Tinkery.

  • Name your data sources clearly (e.g., “Google Ads – Brand Campaigns”) for easier identification across multiple projects.

  • Check your Google Ads permissions: Ensure your account has the correct permissions and API access enabled.

  • Sync regularly: If you frequently update campaigns, plan to refresh data sources or re-import for the most accurate reporting.
