Divisions, Flights, and Teams

Updated over 5 months ago

Divisions, Flights, and Teams (DFTs) are commonly used for leagues and events. They all have their purpose, and they all are easy to create and manage.

Using Divisions and Flights:

Divisions and Flights are similar and can serve the same purpose. But what is the difference between the two?

The image above highlights the differences between the two. Sometimes flights and divisions are used together.

The above image describes the typical scenario when flights and divisions are used together. In this four-ball event, there is an open, senior, and women's division. Within the Open and Senior Divisions, there are flights.

There are also two different levels of Divisions, Flights and Teams.

  • Global (All-Season or All Event) Divisions, Flights, and Teams: This level of DFTs can be found under the Golfers Menu and is used for the entire event or league.

  • Round Divisions, Flights, Teams: This lower level of DFTs is found under the Rounds Menu, where the DFTs are only used in the context of a single round (Note: If the event is only one round, then this DFT can be found under the Golfers Menu.)

Take a look at the DFTs for a specific round. The Skins Division is a Round Division that was created and used only for this round. The Pro Division and All Golfers Division (All Golfers Division is always created) are Global (All-Season) Divisions used over all the rounds in the league or event.

An important concept to understand is that if you make changes to any of the DFTs under the Rounds Tab, it will not affect the Global (All-Season) DFTs under the Golfers Tab. Making changes to the Global (All-Season DFTs) under the Golfers Tab will automatically affect all future Round DFTs if you manage an event. If you are managing a league, you will need to "Sync" your DFTs in Golfers > Event/League Divisions/Flights/Teams for the changes to affect future rounds that you have already started planning. Divisions:

Divisions are used to, of course, divide your field of players to score a tournament or create pairings.

The tournament setup above uses a Pro Division for a player v field stroke play event. Only players in that division will be used for this tournament.

Pairings can also be created by division. In the sequence above, we are creating pairings using the East Course Division and West Course Division. When the pairings are created, they will be separated by division. Note that pairings cannot be created by division if there are overlapping divisions.

Player Flights:

Flights are also used when creating tournaments and pairings.

The individual stroke play tournament above is also flighted. By doing this, the leaderboard will be separated by flights.

When creating pairings, you can also use flights. Below are the flight pairing options when creating pairings for a single round (Rounds > Create New Pairings).

Teams:

Like divisions and flights, teams are used for scoring tournaments and creating pairings.

The above tournament setup uses the Member-Guest team list to create a Match Play tournament. In some cases, there may not be a need to create teams. Click Here to understand if you need to create a team list.

The sequence above shows a team list of two-person teams being used to create pairings. You can create by team (pair) or team (foursome). In other words, have two players from each team be paired together with two players from another team or have an entire foursome comprised of one team.

Flights by Teams:

Oftentimes, flighted teams need to be created. One popular scenario where flighted teams are used is for Member-Guest Invitationals where there are multiple flights, and within each flight, there are teams.

Division/Flight/Team when Guest added using Round Signups:

Typically guest added during Round Signup can be managed in the Round Division/Flight/Teams. However, if you have created an event/league with only one round, the Round Division/Flight/Teams is not available to manage those guests.
