This article discusses how team captains can be selected and used for team-based leagues. For details on how team captains can be used for team cup matches, Click Here.

One of the biggest challenges a league manager encounters, is getting everyone to play every single week. A lot of players simply cannot commit to playing every single Wednesday night. There is a solution to this problem and its called creating Team Captains.

A team captain is responsible for logging in and confirming which teammates are playing each week.

While creating teams, if only 4 players on the team will play in the team competition each week, make sure to set the minimum number of players on a team to 4 as show below.

You can add as many other players to that team roster as you want over the minimum team size.

You assign team captains while creating teams as shown below.

If you look at the sequence above, we are making Martin Williams the team captain for that team.

When ready to open signups for a round, go to the Rounds > Open Free Sign Ups. The Captains will then be permitted to select their teammates to play for that round as shown below.

So how does the captain select who is playing each week? When the captain logs into the portal, he/she will need to click on the gray gearbox on the top right and there will be an option called "Team Management". They will click on that and see a list of all the rounds that are open to edit your teams. When they click on "edit team" for the round, they can select the players for that round. In the screenshot above, this team is required to have 4 players for the team competition. The captain will select the 4 players. Please view GIF above.

If there are any additional players on the team roster that would like to play, that is no problem. Say for instance Crowe and Kagay aren't going to play in the team competition, but would like to play in that round. Check the box for him in the "Playing" column as shown below.

Once the roster for the round is set, the manager should click Save. Now, 6 players will be added to the round player roster for the league manager. The captain can go in and make changes at any time until the signups for that round closes.

As team captains are setting their lineup for the week, the round roster will be populating for you, the manager, to monitor.

You will also see that the captain has the option to send an additional message to the league manager on the bottom of the page.

So if you have a league that has an attendance issue, you might want to look into adapting the Team Captain strategy. More players may be inclined to sign up for the league if they know they aren't required to play every round.
