Streamline your best team players (College Scoring Format) head-to-head matchup league with our League Tournaments feature. We took the look and feel for this feature straight from our easy-to-use Quick Event Setup. With a few simple clicks, automatically create team head-to-head matchups based on round-robin seeding, along with the competition for each round. Leagues with large teams often play this type of competition, allowing players to play any time during the day and have their score count for the league standings each week.
In this article, we will discuss how to set up and manage League Tournaments.
Preparing for a League Tournament
Before you go ahead and use the League Tournament scheduler, you will need to take care of a couple of things first.
Make sure you have rounds created that do not already have pairings. If you use rounds that already have pairings, the scheduler will override them.
Add players to your roster. To see how to add players to your event roster, Click Here.
You will need to ensure you create the teams. If you haven't already, go to the Event/League Profile (Event/League > Event/League Profile > General Settings) and select the option that your league or event uses teams. Then, go to the Golfers Menu > Event/League Divisions/Flights/Teams and create your teams. Note: Team list must be in the All Golfers Division.
Setting up a League Tournament:
After completing the steps above, to set up your League Tournament, go to League/Event > League Tournaments > "Add New Head-to-Head Match" (as shown below). The League Tournament setup page consists of three sections: Rounds, Teams, and Competition.
Add a name and continue the process as outlined below.
Rounds Section:
The Round section allows you to select which rounds are included in the schedule (as shown below).
Teams Section:
The Teams section allows you to define the team list and change the seeding order of the teams (as shown below).
The assigned seeding will determine how the round-robin scheduler schedules the teams. The default order is by order of the teams in your team lists. There are various options for seeding when creating the flighted teams, and they can be further tweaked from there.
Our software uses the standard round-robin schedule to decide who plays against who and when (e.g., 1st seed plays last seed in the first round, then builds out from there). If you would like to modify the seeding and schedule, you can use custom seeding by clicking "Round Robin Seeds" (as shown below).
Competition Section:
The Competition section allows you to set up the tournament competition (as shown below).
Note: Grayed-out options cannot be changed and are required for this feature.
Here is the option when creating the competition (left to right):
Team scores will include: The format allowed is best team player(s).
Ues Best "X" Gross/Net Scores(s): Enter the total scores that should be counted. Are you counting only the top 4 total net scores for each team? If so, leave gross blank. Are you counting a combination of gross and net scores? If so, then enter the number to be counted for each.
Gross/Net Optimization: It is important to select the desired optimization when taking a combination of gross and net total scores. Because you cannot use the same player's gross and net score for the team total, it has to be one or the other. Do you take the best total gross scores first, then the remaining net? Or do you take the best net first? Or, do you take the optimal combination of both? If taking the optimal combination, our system will determine the absolute best combination to give each team the best possible score.
Payout to: Must be to Team(s).
Format: The possible formats are Stroke, Stableford, or Quota. Additional changes to ball selection may be required when selecting Stableford or Quota.
Competition: Must be Team (best players) v. Flight.
Balls: Must be Own Ball on each hole.
Holes: Defines which holes are being played in the tournament. Click Here for details on all of the options.
Handicap: How are Playing Handicaps to be computed for this tournament? We always suggest visiting the Handicap Analysis to ensure the Playing Handicaps are being computed as expected. For information on the available handicap options, Click Here.
Handicap Allowance: A percentage of the course handicap a player will receive. For more details on handicap allowances, Click Here.
Tie-breaking: Select the Tie-Breaking Method. Two additional tie-breaking methods can be used for this type of format:
Gross Countback of Players not Contributing to Team Score: Break ties by looking at the best gross individual score (that was not counted) for both teams. If still a tie, look at the next best score for both teams.
Net Countback of Players not Contributing to Team Score: Break ties by looking at the best net individual score (that was not counted) for both teams. If still a tie, look at the next best score for both teams.
Purse & Points: Must be "by winner takes all."
Points: Include the number of points earned for each head-to-head match.
Managing Existing League Tournaments:
Once the head-to-head matches are created, you can edit or delete a specific round competition. You can also delete all head-to-head tournaments created and start over (as shown below).
Note: Deleting all "Head-to-Head Tournament" will also delete all round flights and tournaments.
Round Flights & Tournament:
To view the round flights created by the League tournament feature, go to your Rounds > Round Divisions/Flights/Teams > Manage Flights by Team. The example below shows flights for round 1, which represent each head-to-head match in Round 1 (as shown below).
To view the head-to-head tournament created for a specific round, go to Rounds > Tournaments. From here, you can make edits to the individual round tournament, which will only affect the specific round (as shown below).
Editing Teams:
If you'd like to edit a team roster within a team list, go to Golfers > Divisions/Flights/Teams > Manage Team Lists > Manage Teams. You can search for the team and click "Edit" next to the team you'd like to edit (as shown below).
Edits to a team will automatically update to all future rounds.
