AI Agents

This guide explains what agents are and how you can request enrollment into new agents from the Trunk Tools team.

What Are AI Agents?

AI Agents in Trunk Tools are specialized, task-focused assistants built to help construction teams save time, reduce errors, and automate repetitive workflows. Instead of searching through thousands of pages of drawings, specifications, and RFIs manually, AI Agents act as experts trained for specific use cases—helping you get fast, accurate answers.

For example, TrunkSubmittal is one of our most widely used AI Agents. It automatically reviews Product Data Submittals against their specification sections, scans related project documentation, and identifies discrepancies before they create costly rework or delays.

What AI Agents Do Well

  • Draft clear project communications (emails, RFIs, letters)

  • Search across large sets of documents to find the right information quickly

  • Build structured outputs like lists or tables to summarize data

Current Limitations

AI Agents are not yet perfect at tasks like:

  • Quantity takeoffs

  • Large-scale symbol recognition

  • Object counting

These areas continue to improve rapidly, and Trunk Tools is positioned to take advantage of these advancements.

Examples of AI Agents

  • TrunkText — Ask your project a question by text, web, or Teams and get cited answers instantly.

  • TrunkSubmittal — Reviews every submittal against your specs and drafts responses.

  • TrunkRegister — Reads a whole spec book, builds your submittal register, and pushes it back to your project management system.

  • TrunkReview — Compares every sheet to the prior version and finds all changes, clouded or not.

  • TrunkRFI — Catches the RFIs your documents already answer and drafts the rest.

  • TrunkBid — Levels subcontractor bids side by side and surfaces scope gaps and exclusions before buyout.

  • TrunkBrowse — Click any object on a sheet to open its full context: schedule row, spec section, RFIs, submittals, and related sheets.

  • TrunkChange (available for early adopters) — Detects a change event the moment a bulletin or RFI response lands, traces every affected trade, and drafts the change order with estimated costs.

Requesting a New AI Agent

We know every project and company has unique needs. If you’d like to request a new AI Agent to be set up for your team:

  1. Reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM).

    • You can contact the Trunk Tools team directly via your assigned CSM’s email or phone number (found in your onboarding materials).

  2. Describe your use case.

    • Share the specific problem or workflow you’d like automated. The more detail, the better.

  3. Collaborate on setup.

    • Our team will evaluate your request, provide recommendations, and configure the new agent if feasible.

📩 If you’re not sure who your CSM is, email us at support@trunk.tools and we’ll connect you with the right person.

Tips

✅ Tip: When requesting an agent, think about tasks that are:

  • Time-consuming

  • Repetitive

  • Prone to human error

  • Require pulling data from large, unstructured sets of project files

These are the workflows where AI Agents deliver the biggest impact.
