Using Trunk Tools as a Project Engineer
This guide is for Project Engineers who want to get more out of Trunk Tools day to day. It covers how to find drawing and spec details fast, keep RFIs and submittals moving, and draft cleaner documentation.
Note: This guide is about your job, not your permissions. To see what your Trunk Tools role allows, see Understanding Roles & Permissions.
Set Up Your Suggestions
On your project home screen, click Customize next to What can I ask? and choose Project Engineer as your role. Pick focus areas like RFIs & submittals or Quality control. See Using the Prompt Library in TrunkText.
Where Trunk Tools Helps Most
Drawings and Specs
Get answers with citations back to the sheet or spec section.
Confirm the door hardware set for opening J100C.
What is the STC rating for the windows?
Which drawing sheets were revised in Bulletin 3?
Note: Use filters to search only Specs or Drawings when you know where the answer lives. See Using Filters in Trunk Tools.
RFIs
Which RFIs are related to door hardware?
Provide a list of RFIs that have been in review for more than 10 days.
Improve this draft RFI: [paste your draft].
TrunkRFI checks a new RFI against your project documents to see if the answer already exists, and helps draft it if not. See TrunkRFI - Prevent + Draft Agent: Getting Started Guide.
Submittals
List the submittal requirements in spec section 08 71 00.
Which submittals have been returned as Revise and Resubmit?
If your project uses TrunkSubmittal, you can get email notifications when reviews are ready. See Managing Submittal Review Email Notifications.
Checking Something You Received
Attach a file, like a product data sheet or a marked-up PDF, and ask how it compares to the specs. Attachments stay in that conversation. See Attaching Files to a Chat in TrunkText.
Tips for Project Engineers
Be specific. Name the sheet, spec section, level, or room.
Verify before you send. Open the cited source before an answer goes into an RFI or submittal response.
One topic per conversation. Start a new conversation when you switch subjects.
