How Your Documents Get Into Trunk Tools
This article explains how your project documents get into Trunk Tools, which file types are supported, and how to decide what to connect.
Trunk Tools layers on top of the tools your team already uses — it reads your documents from the sources you connect, so there's no separate library to build and maintain by hand.
Who Can Do This
✅ Business Admin — connects document sources and manages what's integrated, typically during onboarding with the Trunk Tools team.
✅ Project Manager — can manage integrations for their assigned projects.
— Project Member — works with documents once they're connected, but doesn't set up integrations.
Where Your Documents Come From
Trunk Tools connects to the systems where your project documents already live:
Procore
Autodesk (Construction Cloud / Build / Forma)
Egnyte
SharePoint
Box
Dropbox
Once a source is connected, Trunk Tools reads the documents from it and keeps them available for questions, filtering, and agent reviews. For step-by-step setup, see the integration guides in this collection.
File Types Trunk Tools Can Read
Trunk Tools handles both structured and unstructured project data, including:
PDF — drawings, specs, submittals, and other documents.
CSV — data exports.
XER / MPP — schedule files (Primavera and Microsoft Project).
Structured data fields pulled directly from Procore and Autodesk.
Note: TrunkSubmittal supports PDF documents up to 200MB, which covers the large majority of submittals. Limits can vary by agent and file type — for the limits that apply to your account, contact support@trunk.tools.
Deciding What to Connect
The quality of your answers depends on what Trunk Tools can read. To choose which documents to bring in, see What Documents Should You Integrate Into Trunk Tools?
