The connection between Pencil and media accounts pulls the following data:

  • Ad context - creatives (text, image, video), objective, targeting. No individual-level targeting data

  • Performance metrics - CTR, CPC, CPM, CPA, ROAS and 2,000+ metrics configured in ad accounts. NB. Impressions/spend is utilized for understanding significance only.

  • Over a time window of - 90 days historic and ongoing

You can see a channel-level breakdown of exactly what permissions Pencil requires in the API Specifications

How is the connection between Pencil and media accounts made?

The connection is made via a simple & direct one-click OAuth integration ("Connect to Meta" etc.) where an admin of the media account in question grants the appropriate permissions for the appropriate Pencil workspace for a given brand, market, product etc.

What safety configurations or limitations are possible for the connection?

The following configurations are possible when making media account connections. These can be configured by the media account connector or the Pencil admin for the workspace in question:

  • Read-only connections. “Block write access” can be enabled in the integration settings to prevent Pencil users from exporting creatives into media account libraries or campaigns

  • Purging of spend data. Spend data can be not pulled, or purged from API responses
