How to Manage Market Pricing and Availability

Expand your reach and optimize your sales by customizing product availability and pricing across different international markets on The Oblist.

Written by The Oblist

What Are Markets?

Markets represent different geographical regions where The Oblist operates. Each market may have its own currency and customer preferences. By default, your products are available in all markets with automatic currency conversion, but you now have the power to:

- Choose specific markets where your products are available
- Set custom prices for each market
- Manage pricing differently for product variants

1. Accessing Market Settings

For New Products:
• In the Price & Inventory section, look for the "Manage market prices" button
• This button appears after you've set your base price

For Existing Products:
• Navigate to your product's edit page
• Find the "Manage market prices" button in the Price & Inventory section

2. Managing Market Availability

Enabling/Disabling Markets
When you open the market pricing modal, you'll see a list of all available markets:

• Toggle ON ✅: Your product will be available in this market
• Toggle OFF ❌: Your product will NOT be available in this market

Important: By default, all markets are enabled. You can disable any market but at least one but be enable.

Understanding Market Status

Each market shows:
• Market name (e.g., United States, UK, Australia)
• Currency (EUR, USD, GBP)
• Countries included (hover over the info icon to see details)
• Availability status ("Product available" or "Product not available")

3. Setting Market Prices

For Products Without Variants

You have two pricing options for each active market:

1. Auto-convert (Default)
• The system automatically converts your base price using current exchange rates
• No manual input needed
• Prices update automatically with exchange rate changes

2. Custom Price
• Set a specific price for that market
• Enter the exact amount you want to charge
• Useful for competitive pricing or market-specific strategies

Tip: If you leave a custom price field empty, the base price will be used automatically.

For Products With Variants

When your product has variants (like different colors or sizes), you can:
1. Use uniform pricing: All variants share the same market prices
2. Set variant-specific pricing: Each variant can have different prices per market

To enable variant-specific pricing:
• Ensure you've enabled "price adjustments" when creating your variants
• In the market pricing modal, expand each variant to set individual prices

4. Best Practices

Market Selection
• Research your markets: Disable markets where shipping is challenging or demand is low
• Start focused: It's better to serve fewer markets well than many markets poorly
Pricing Strategy
• Consider local competition: Research similar products in each market
• Account for shipping costs: Factor in higher shipping costs to distant markets
• Use round numbers: €150 looks more professional than €147.83

Currency Considerations
• EUR markets: Most markets use EUR, making pricing simpler
• USD/GBP markets: Require special attention due to currency fluctuations
• Custom prices: Update them periodically to remain competitive

5. Common Scenarios

"I only want to sell in Europe"

• Open market pricing
• Disable all non-European markets (United States, Australia, etc.)
• Keep EU Zone and European countries enabled

"I want different prices for US customers"

• Ensure United States market is enabled
• Select "Custom" pricing for US
• Enter your desired USD price

"My variants have different values"

• Use variant-specific pricing
• Set higher prices for premium colors/materials
• Keep pricing consistent within each market

6. Important Notes

• Changes apply immediately: Market settings sync to your live products quickly
• Base price is required: You must set a base price before managing markets
• Disabled markets: Customers in disabled markets won't see your products
• Price changes: Update custom prices as needed to stay competitive

7. Troubleshooting

"My market settings aren't saving"
• Ensure you've clicked "Save" in the modal
• Check that you have a valid base price set
• Refresh the page and try again

"I see '0' in price fields"
• This is normal - it means no custom price is set
• The base price will be used automatically
• You'll see "Base price will be used" as a helper text

"Some markets won't disable"
• All markets can now be disabled, including France
• Changes may take 1-2 minutes to fully sync
