Disputes & chargebacks

Rarely, a collector raises a dispute (a "chargeback") with their bank instead of going through the normal after-sales route. These are handled by The Oblist — you don't deal with the bank — but it helps to know what happens.

What a chargeback is

A chargeback is when a buyer asks their card issuer to reverse a payment. The bank temporarily pulls the funds while it investigates, and the merchant (here, The Oblist) must respond with evidence.

What happens on your side

  • The related case is marked as disputed and the payout for that order is frozen until it's resolved — so nothing is paid out on contested funds.

  • Our team gathers the evidence (order, delivery proof, communications) and responds to the bank.

  • When the dispute closes, the case is updated and any hold is lifted accordingly.

How you can help

If we reach out about a dispute on one of your pieces, send us quickly:

  • proof the piece was made/shipped as described (photos, specs),

  • any tracking / delivery confirmation,

  • notes on any prior contact about the order.

Good evidence is what wins disputes.

Good to know

  • Disputes are uncommon and are not a judgement on you — they're a banking mechanism.

  • The best prevention is the everyday basics: accurate listings, dated proof of what you shipped, and prompt handling of any issue through After-sales before a collector feels they have to go to their bank.

Where to find it

If a dispute touches one of your orders, you'll be contacted by Customer Care; the related case and payout hold are reflected in After-sales and Payments.
