Message request: How do you send a direct message to members of your LinkedIn groups and events?

Everything you need to know about message requests.

Updated over a week ago

On LinkedIn, it is possible to send messages to some of your prospects without having to request a connection first.

Two features allow this:

Waalaxy does not support InMails, which means that even if you have the premium subscription of LinkedIn, you have to go through a connection request in your campaign to send a message afterwards.

  • The message request.

A little-known but quite effective feature in prospecting, we'll talk about it right away. 👓

The full blog post is here ➡️ just there !

🫐 What is a message request and who is it for?

Between the invitation and the message, the message request allows you to send a message to a person with whom you are not connected on LinkedIn, provided:

  • They are in the same group,

  • Participate in the same event,

  • Be in the same company,

  • That the person has an "Open to work" profile.

The message request arrives in the instant messaging system, in the form of a small notification box:

  • On the LinkedIn messenger:

🍓How to send a message request campaign?

Prerequisites

It is possible that when importing your leads, we did not correctly retrieve the information "This lead shares the same group or event or company as you", in this case when launching a "Message Request" campaign, Waalaxy will judge that your leads are not eligible for this campaign because they do not meet the right conditions.

We therefore recommend you to launch a "Lead + Message Request" campaign instead. (as a minimum - other actions can be added)

💡 The "Profile Visit" is an action that retrieves & updates LinkedIn profile data. to date.

Import your leads

  • From a LinkedIn Group

  • From a LinkedIn event

Your prospects are imported into the list of prospects that you have created beforehand.

🥝 Launch the campaign

  • Go to the "Campaign" tab, and "Start a campaign",

  • Select the actions "Visit" and "Message request" (at least),

  • You get a list of sequences with filtered actions,

  • Choose the sequence of your choice,

  • Add the prospects previously imported from the prospect list,

  • Write the content of your message request,

You can add variables (Name, First name, Company name), Gifs, attachments (depending on your subscription),

  • Validate and launch the campaign.

You will then see it appear in the Campaign tab and "In progress".

🍅 To know more

If you have chosen a sequence with a (classic) "Message" following a "Message Request", the prospect will have to accept it before your message can be sent to them.

Why didn't my prospects import?

Here are the reasons why you have a difference between the number of leads you wanted to import and the number of leads that were actually imported:

  • Some leads were already present in your interface (we automatically sort out duplicates)

  • Some of the people in your search were outside your network (relationships beyond the 3rd degree)

  • Your search contained more than 1,000 results (for a standard LinkedIn search) or more than 2,500 results for a LinkedIn Sales Navigator search)

  • You had already exported on this search, so the search picked up where it left off

If there is no match, you can come and see us in the chat support! 🦸‍♀️
