Walkies has two kinds of discount. Automatic discounts take money off matching bookings by themselves, and one-off discounts are ones you add to a single appointment or invoice. Here's what each one is for, and how Walkies works them out.
Which should I use?
A discount you give again and again: set up an automatic discount, like 10% off for loyal clients, or £2 off walks at quiet times. Walkies takes it off every new booking it matches. See How do I set up an automatic discount?
A discount on one appointment: add one of your discounts, or a one-off, to that appointment. It's carried onto the appointment's invoice. See How do I add a discount to an appointment?
A discount on one invoice: add it to the invoice, like a goodwill gesture after a missed visit. See How do I add a discount to an invoice?
Changing your discounts: edit one, make it manual or delete it. See How do I change a discount, make it manual or delete it?
Ideas for automatic discounts
Loyal clients: a percentage off for the clients you choose, with Clients this applies to.
Quiet times: money off on certain days or at certain times, like weekday middays, with Days this applies to and Only at certain times.
Seasonal offers: money off on a date or between two dates, with Only on certain dates. Turn on Repeats every year to have it come back each year.
One service: money off one service, like longer walks, with Services this applies to.
Certain pets: a fixed amount off for certain pets or pet types. It comes off once for each matching pet.
How discounts are worked out
A fixed amount comes off once per appointment. For stays charged per day or per night, it comes off for each matching day or night.
A percentage is of the matching services, including extra pet prices and add-ons. Surcharges, travel, tax and tips aren't discounted.
Discounts add up and don't compound: two 10% discounts take off 20%.
Discounts can't take off more than the services and surcharges. Travel, tax and tips are still charged. If your discounts would come to more, Walkies takes them in turn until it reaches that limit: automatic discounts first, in the order you created them, then the ones added by hand. A discount with nothing left to take off still shows, at £0.00.
Service tax is worked out before the discount, so a discount doesn't lower the tax.
You can add the same discount more than once. It then shows with a count, like "Loyalty × 2".
What your clients see
Each discount is listed by its name, with the amount it takes off, on the appointment and the invoice. So give your discounts names you're happy for clients to see.
Clients see them in the Walkies Journal app, on the invoice email and the invoice PDF, and in a web browser when they open the link to an appointment or invoice.
When a client books in the Walkies Journal app, any automatic discounts that match are shown on Your booking and taken off the total before they send the request.
Good to know
Discounts are on every plan.
Only admins and sub-admins can set up discounts and add them. Team members can't see discounts, prices or invoices.
Surcharges work the same way, but add money on. See How do I add a surcharge?
