Bitcoin self-custody

Written by David Alfonzo Gauna Martinez

🌍 A hybrid wallet for strong money

At Wallib, Bitcoin isn't just "another balance." We treat it as what it is: strong money, useful both for saving and for spending.

That's why we handle it in two layers:

  • 🟠 Bitcoin on-chain

  • ⚡ Bitcoin Lightning Network (LN)

And we combine two models:

  • Self-custody, where you control your keys.

  • Managed custody, where Wallib handles the infrastructure.

🟠 BTC on-chain: your Bitcoin under self-custody

The on-chain Bitcoin pocket is your self-custody space within Wallib.

  • Here, you have control of your keys.

  • Only you can move that BTC.

  • It's ideal for:

    • Long-term savings.

    • Keeping Bitcoin as a "store of value."

When we talk about "you control your keys," we're specifically talking about this pocket: if you have the key, you have control of the money.

⚡ BTC Lightning Network: fast payments for everyday use

The BTC Lightning (LN) pocket is where your Bitcoin for everyday use lives:

  • Fast payments.

  • Smaller amounts.

  • Near-instant sends.

On Wallib:

  • When you buy BTC with PSE, it's currently credited to your Lightning pocket.

  • You can send BTC via LN using:

    • Invoices/QR

    • Email-style Lightning addresses (e.g. user@domain)

For technical and regulatory reasons, Lightning BTC is under Wallib's custody (you see it and use it, but we manage the keys).
