🔗 Can I move between on-chain and Lightning?
Yes. Wallib lets you combine long-term savings (on-chain) with agile day-to-day use (Lightning), without leaving the app.
From on-chain to Lightning (LN): you can do this yourself, directly from the app, in just a few steps (explained below). Useful if you want to use BTC you had saved on-chain for quick daily payments.
From Lightning to on-chain: this move isn't available as self-service in the app — you need to do it through the support channel, by writing to support@wallib.co. Useful if you want to move your BTC from Lightning into on-chain self-custody.
🔁 Step by step: from on-chain Bitcoin to Lightning (LN)
Before you start
Make sure you have:
Balance in on-chain BTC in your Bitcoin pocket.
The Wallib app updated.
Keep in mind: what you'll be doing is a network change — from on-chain to Lightning — NOT a sale to COP (although you'll see a reference value in COP on the exchange screen).
1. Go to your Bitcoin pocket
Open the Wallib app.
On the home screen, look for the "Pockets" section.
Tap the "Bitcoin Balance" card (the one showing your sats).
👉 This will take you to the Bitcoin Pocket view.
2. Switch to the Lightning view
On the Bitcoin Pocket screen you'll see two options:
Bitcoin (on-chain)
Lightning (LN)
Tap the "Lightning" card.
Once you select Lightning, the "Exchange" button will activate in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
3. Open the "Exchange" option
With Lightning selected, tap the "Exchange" button. The "Exchange On-chain Bitcoin for Lightning" screen will open.
4. Choose how much BTC you want to move to Lightning
On the exchange screen you'll see:
At the top: "Your Wallib balance" (in on-chain BTC).
A "You send" field with the BTC icon.
Below, a "You receive" field showing an approximate value in COP (reference only).
Do the following:
In the "You send" field, type the amount of BTC you want to move from on-chain to Lightning. If you want to move it all, tap "All balance."
You'll see a COP value appear in "You receive": that value is just a reference of the peso equivalent, but what you're actually receiving is BTC in your Lightning pocket, not COP.
At the bottom you'll also see the minimum exchange amount (for example: "Minimum amount: 0.0003 BTC").
5. Confirm the exchange
Check that the amount of BTC to move is correct.
When you're sure, tap the "Exchange" button.
The app will process the transaction and, once complete:
Your on-chain BTC balance will decrease.
Your Lightning BTC balance will increase by the amount you just exchanged.
✅ Done! You've moved your Bitcoin from on-chain to Lightning, and it's now ready to:
Send via Lightning (LN)
Pay LN invoices
Use in fast day-to-day transactions
