Key Concepts
Whippy Business Phone: Whippy’s internet-based phone system, fully integrated with the platform for calling, voicemail, transcription, and call routing.
SIP domain: A container used to group SIP users and credentials for Whippy Business Phone provisioning.
Credential lease: A reusable credential definition applied to SIP users.
SIP user: The Business Phone identity used by the desk phone to register with Whippy.
Extension: A feature key such as park, transfer, or speed dial assigned to the phone.
Auto-provisioning URL: A secure Whippy-generated URL that configures the phone automatically when applied to the device.
Step-by-Step: Provision a Fanvil Desk Phone
Connect the Fanvil desk phone to the internet using Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
On the phone, open network settings and locate the device IP address.
Enter the IP address in a web browser.
Log in using the default credentials (typically
adminfor both username and password).Confirm that no Business Phone lines or extensions are configured yet.
Create SIP Resources in Whippy
Go to Settings, then Account Settings.
Create a new SIP domain.
Create a credential lease for the domain.
Create a SIP user and generate a password.
Attach the credential lease and assign the SIP user to a Whippy Business Phone channel.
Create an Extension
Create a new extension (for example, star 11 for call parking).
Set the extension label, type, ownership, and target as needed.
Generate the Auto-Provisioning URL
Open the Auto Provisioning tab in Whippy.
Select the SIP user.
Choose the correct Fanvil model.
Generate and copy the auto-provisioning URL.
Apply the URL to the Fanvil Phone
In the Fanvil web interface, go to Auto Provision.
Select Static Provisioning Server.
Paste the auto-provisioning URL.
Set the protocol to HTTPS.
Adjust the provisioning interval if needed.
Click Auto Provision Now.
Wait for the phone to apply the configuration.
Confirm Registration
Open the Line menu on the phone and confirm the line shows as registered.
Open the Function Key menu and confirm extensions (for example, park keys) are assigned.
Tips and Best Practices
Use Ethernet during initial setup for more reliable provisioning.
Confirm the correct Fanvil model is selected in Whippy before generating the URL.
Use SIP user passwords generated by Whippy instead of custom values.
Reboot the phone if changes do not appear immediately.
Keep device firmware up to date to avoid compatibility issues.
