How do I create a Writable assignment in HMH Ed?

Use Connected Assign for Ed and Writable for students to access assignments on Ed.

Any teacher using Writable courses rostered from Ed, can assign Writable assignments to Ed class rosters. Select customers with access to HMH Connected Discover can search Writable for HMH Into Literature assignments on Ed. For more information on HMH Connected discover, click here.

In this article:

Assign from Writable to Ed

  1. Log in to Writable by navigating to the Discover tab on Ed, and clicking Writable in Connected Solutions.

  2. Find and copy, or create an assignment in Writable. If necessary, make sure to edit the assignment title prior to assigning. Click assign and choose your class. You must select an Ed rostered course to create the assignment on Ed.

  3. Select assignment and student support options. For more information on available assignment and feedback options, click here. You must choose a date to collect from students, which also establishes a due date on Ed. On this date, the assignment automatically collects from students, and marks the assignment overdue on Ed.

  4. Once assigned, you can monitor students’ overall progress from the “My Classes” page on Ed, and students will have a link in their “Assignments’ list on Ed.

Assign HMH Into Literature Resources from Ed (Connected Discover Customers Only)

  1. Navigate to the Discover tab on Ed. You can find Writable resources by searching for 'Writable,' navigating to a lesson, or navigating to 'All Resources' and clicking the 'Writable' or 'Writing Resources' icon.

    Tip: Use the 'Component Filter' on Ed to easily find Writable resources in your lesson.

  2. Click the three dots next to your Writable assignment, and click assign.

  3. Writable opens automatically, and you will be asked to select your class for the assignment. From this menu, you can select any rostered courses, including LMS classes if available (Canvas, Schoology, Google Classroom). In order for the assignment to be accessed on Ed for students, you must select an Ed rostered course.

  4. Select assignment and student support options. For more information on available assignment and feedback options, click here. You must choose a date to collect from students, which also establishes a due date on Ed. On this date, the assignment automatically collects from students, and marks the assignment overdue on Ed.

  5. Once you’ve finished assigning, the assignment will be available in the My Classes section of Ed, under assignments for each course selected. Students will be able to view the assignment on Ed. Note: The assignment title will need to be edited prior to assigning. If you've already created the assignment and want to change the name, unassign in Writable, modify the title, then reassign the assignment using the same process.
