How to select the right camera if your device has 2 webcams (front and rear)

Updated over a year ago

Some 2-in-1/hybrid devices (such as Microsoft Surface products) have 2 built-in cameras: a front-facing camera and a rear-facing camera. If you are using a device with two cameras to complete Casper or Snapshot, the front-facing camera needs to be the default camera.

Chrome users with dual-camera devices may be able to trigger the correct front camera for the initial webcam check, but the device usually defaults to the rear camera once the test begins. In these cases, the proctoring and security team will pause your test so that you can fix the issue by switching to Firefox. So, if you are using a device with 2 cameras, you must use Firefox when taking the Casper test and Snapshot. You can download the latest version here.

If you have difficulty selecting the correct camera with Firefox, you can try the following steps:

  1. Go to the Firefox menu (three horizontal lines) located in the upper right-hand corner of your browser

  2. Select Options

  3. Select Privacy and Security on the left side

  4. Scroll down to Permissions and select Camera Settings

  5. If https://my.acuityinsights.app is listed with a “Block” status, change this to “Allow”. If it does not appear in the list, you may be prompted to allow camera permissions the next time you access our website.

  6. Select Save Changes

  7. If prompted on our site, allow camera permissions, then select the front- or user-facing camera by clicking the camera icon in the left side of your address bar.
