Global purpose settings in Designer

Configure shared purposes for activity icons across all courses using Designer. (Pro Only)

You find the global purpose settings for Designer in Site administration > Plugins > Course formats > Designer Format > General settings and then in the tab Purpose.

If in the course format settings the course type "Normal" and the course layout "Show one section per page" is selected, the sections on the main course page display icons for each activity. Instead of using a different icon for every activity type, you can group them under a common purpose.


Available settings

The list shows all activities available in your Moodle installation. For each activity you can select a purpose from the dropdown menu. The available purposes are:

  • Administration

  • Assessment

  • Collaboration

  • Communication

  • Content

  • Other

  • Interactive content

Note: Each purpose and its icon can be managed globally.

Tip: Assign activities you want to hide to the "Other" purpose and then disable that purpose in the global management settings.
