Manage notifications for school users

Learn how school notifications work, how to set the notifications a school user receives, and how to assign one notification to several users at once.

Bound sends notifications about school activity, and an admin with full permissions chooses which of them each school user receives. A coach can be set to hear only about their own program, and a trainer can be set to hear about every student in the school.

You manage these notifications in two places, and both reach the same settings:

  1. Users -> a user's Notifications tab, when you are setting up one person across many notification types.

  2. Notifications in the School menu, when you are assigning one notification type to several people.

This is the admin side. A user also has notification settings of their own in the Bound app, which they control from their own device. Those are covered in Manage notifications.

Note: Managing notifications for other users requires full school permissions. See Manage school admin user permissions. A user must already exist in your school before you can set their notifications. See Invite school users to log in.

How school notifications work

Every notification belongs to one of six categories, shown as tabs: Administration, Events, Venues, Programs, Students, and Promote. Each category holds a list of individual notifications, each with its own short description and its own on and off control.

Four categories apply to the school as a whole. Two are scoped:

  • Programs: Choose a program first, using Select Girls Program, Select Boys Program, or Select Coed Program. Bound then shows one set of notifications for the program itself and a separate set for each team in it. Setting a notification at the program level covers every student in the program, and setting it on a team covers only the students rostered on that team.

  • Venues: Choose a venue first, using Select Venue.

Every category also opens with All Notifications, which turns on every notification listed below it in one step.

Set the notifications a school user receives

Use this path when you are setting up one person.

  1. In the School dashboard home, click Users.

  2. Find the user and click the edit icon in front of their name.

  3. Click Notifications.

  4. Click the category you want, such as Students or Events.

    • For Programs, choose the program from Select Girls Program, Select Boys Program, or Select Coed Program. Bound shows the program's notifications and a section for each of its teams.

    • For Venues, choose the venue from Select Venue.

  5. Toggle on each notification the user should receive, or toggle on All Notifications to select everything in that list at once.

  6. Click Save Notifications.

Note: The number beside each category tab shows how many notifications that user currently has in that category, so you can check your work without opening every tab.

Assign one notification to several users at once

Use this path when a single notification, such as an expiring physical, needs to reach more than one person.

  1. In the School dashboard home, click Notifications.

  2. Click the category that holds the notification, such as Students.

  3. Find the notification in the list and click Manage Users.

  4. Choose a person from Add User.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Repeat as needed for more users.

Remove notifications from a user

  • To clear one category, open it on the user's Notifications tab, click Remove All, then click Save Notifications. On the Programs tab, each program and each team has its own Remove All, so clearing one team leaves the others in place.

  • To take one person off a single notification, go to Notifications in the School menu, open the category, click Manage Users on that notification, remove the person from the table, then click Save.

What each category covers

  • Administration: Invitations, Users, Stripe, and Settings. School-level account activity, including invites sent and accepted, permission changes, Stripe account changes, and school settings updates.

  • Events: Ticketing, Contracting, Officiating, Transportation, Live Links, and Global Settings.

  • Venues: New Reserver Application, New Reservation Application, Contract Signed, and Payment Made. Scoped to a venue.

  • Programs: Coaches, Student Registration Setup, Student Registration, and Global Settings at the program level. Each team below the program adds Scheduling, Roster, Coaches, Staff, Document Upload, Physical Upload, Physical Expiration, and Settings.

  • Students: Students, Merging, Service Hours, Eligibility, Student Payment, Student Registration, Document Upload, Physical Upload, Physical Expiration, and Medical Information. Scoped to every student in your school.

  • Promote: Articles, Social Media, and Updates.

Tip: Each notification carries its own one-line description in the interface, so you can read what a notification covers before turning it on.

Note: Physical expiration reminders are one of the notifications on this tab. Setting them for a coach at the program or team level sends reminders for only that group's students, and setting them on the Students tab sends reminders for every student in the school.
