Pausing, Reactivating, Deleting & Cancelling Payments

How to pause, reactivate, or delete recurring payments, why one-time payments can't be cancelled after sending, and switching delivery methods.

How to Pause a Recurring Payment

Pausing a payment is a temporary action that stops future payments while keeping your transaction history intact. This is useful if you want to stop a recurring payment temporarily without permanently losing your records. It allows you to resume payments later without starting from scratch.

When Should You Pause a Payment?

  • If you want to temporarily stop a recurring payment but still want to keep your transaction history

  • If you need time to change a recurring payment's card details or update your billing preferences

  • If you want to prevent a future charge but may resume payments later

  • If you're looking to change your recurring payment setup entirely, pausing first is the recommended first step

How to Pause a Payment:

  1. Go to app.chexy.co and log in to your account, or the Chexy mobile app.

  2. Select the payment you want to pause from your dashboard.

  3. Click on the Pause button to stop future payments.

Once paused, your payment will remain inactive until you choose to reactivate it.

⚠️ You cannot pause a recurring payment if your card has already been charged for the current billing cycle. In such cases, you may need to contact support for further assistance.

How to Reactivate a Paused Payment

If you previously paused a recurring payment and are ready to resume it, you can reactivate it directly from your dashboard. Reactivating restores the payment to its original schedule — no need to set it up again from scratch.

How to Reactivate a Payment:

  1. Choose the inactive payment you would like to activate from the Home screen.

  2. Click "Activate Now".

  3. Confirm the payment details, then click "Activate".

Once reactivated, your recurring payment will resume on its next scheduled date and your existing transaction history will remain intact.

How to Delete a Recurring Payment

Deleting a payment from your Chexy Wallet is a permanent action that will remove all records of the payment, including visibility and transaction history. This cannot be undone.

⚠️ Do not delete a payment if you have any pending payments or if you want to keep a record of past transactions.

When Should You Delete a Payment?

  • If you made a mistake setting up a payment and want to completely remove it.

  • If you no longer want this payment in your records and don't need the transaction history.

If you simply no longer want to make the payment but want to keep your records, consider pausing it instead. This will make the payment inactive while retaining your transaction history.

How to Delete a Payment:

  1. Go to your Dashboard Home Page and select the payment you want to delete.

  2. Pause the subscription first by clicking on the Pause button. You cannot delete an active subscription — you must pause it before deleting.

  3. Click "More" and select "Delete Payment."

🚨 If you have a fee waiver applied on the payment you are trying to delete, this fee waiver will be removed and the system will block you from applying it again. Please reach out to support if this is the case and we'll be happy to apply it again under the right circumstances.

  1. Click "Confirm" when you're ready to delete. Once deleted, the payment and all related transaction history will be permanently removed from your account.

This action is final and cannot be undone.

Why Can't I Cancel a One-Time Payment After It's Sent?

Once a one-time Bill Pay or e-Transfer has been sent, it cannot be cancelled.

After submission, the payment is transmitted through Canada's banking network, processed externally, and cannot be recalled or reversed. At that point, Chexy no longer has control over the transaction.

What Happens Next?

Your payee has received the funds. Some payees take 1–3 weeks to apply payments internally when processed through bill pay. This delay is on the payee's side, not the banking network.

What Should I Do?

Contact your payee's accounting or billing department directly. Provide:

  • Payment date

  • Payment amount

  • Payee name

  • EDI reference details (for bill payments)

Chexy Banking / EDI Details

If your payee needs help locating the payment, provide:

  • ISA Control #: 509670000

  • GS Control #: 509670000

  • ST Control #: 509670164

  • Banking Institution: Dye & Durham

You can tell them: "I need help locating a bill payment sent on [DATE] for [AMOUNT]. Please use these EDI control numbers to search your payment systems: ISA Control #509670000, GS Control #509670000, ST Control #509670164."

Chexy cannot reverse or cancel payments once they have been transmitted through the banking network. If the payment needs to be refunded, your payee must issue the refund directly.

Switching Delivery Methods

Chexy does not support changing the delivery method on an existing payment once you have selected Interac e-Transfer, PAD, or Bill Pay.

To switch to a different delivery method, you must pause the current payment and create a new one with the desired method.

How to Change Your Delivery Method:

  1. From the Dashboard, click on the recurring payment you wish to pause.

  2. On the Recurring Payment Details page, click "Pause."

  3. If you want to permanently delete the old payment, click "More", then select "Delete Payment." Note: Deleting the payment will delete all transaction history associated with it.

  4. Click "New Recurring Payment" on the Homepage and set up the same payment again, but with a different delivery method.

Once your new payment is active, you're all set!
