Why Can't I Freely Change My Payment Date?

Chexy requires a minimum of 4 business days between when your card is charged and when your payee is paid. This ensures funds properly settle before being released.

How Recurring Dates Work

You select a monthly due date, not a fixed charge date. Your actual card charge date may shift depending on:

  • Month length

  • Weekends

  • Public holidays (e.g., Christmas, statutory holidays)

Because of banking schedules, the charge date may not be the same calendar date every month.

Why the 4-Business-Day Rule Exists

Banks require settlement time. Chexy cannot release funds to your payee until the charge has cleared. This is why we require at least 4 business days of processing time.

What Happens If I Try to Change It Too Late?

If you are already inside the 4-business-day window:

  • The payment cannot be moved

  • It may roll to the next billing cycle

Once processing begins, changes are restricted.

Best Practice

Set your recurring payment 5–6 business days before your actual due date. This provides buffer for:

  • Bank holidays

  • Month-end variations

  • Processing delays

Planning ahead helps prevent missed payments or cycle shifts.

Changing Your Credit Card

You can add up to 5 cards and switch between them as you like, but timing matters. You can update your card at any time unless a payment is currently processing.

When Can I Change My Card?

You can update your card if:

  • No payment has been initiated

  • Your subscription is not in a blackout period

To update your card:

  1. Go to your active subscription.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Update your card details.

  4. Save changes.

When Can't I Change It?

You cannot change your card if:

  • A charge attempt has already started and completed

  • The payment is within the 4-business-day processing window

  • The payment is in a blackout period

In this case, you must wait until processing completes. Changes will apply to the next billing cycle.

Important

If your card is expiring soon, update it before your next charge date to avoid failed payments.

If you're unsure whether a payment is processing, contact support with the scheduled date and payee name.

Can I Schedule Future Changes?

At this time, you can't pre-schedule a future start date or delay a change in payment amount.

If you're updating details — like changing your rent amount or moving to a new address — you'll need to wait until your final payment with your current setup is complete, and then make the necessary updates.

If you'd like to delay activation, you're welcome to complete onboarding early, but just wait to activate your payment until the month you want to start. Make sure to activate at least 5 business days before your due date to stay on schedule.
