Why Can’t I Change the Email During a Blackout Period?

"Learn what a blackout period is on Chexy, why payment details are locked during processing, and what to do if you need to make changes."

Why Can't I Edit My Payment Details? (Blackout Period)

If your payment is in a blackout period, certain fields — including the Interac e-Transfer email address — cannot be edited until processing is complete.

What Is a Blackout Period?

A blackout period occurs when:

  • A payment is currently processing

  • A charge attempt has been initiated

  • The payment is within the 4-business-day processing window

During this time, key payment details are locked to protect your transaction.

Why Are Fields Locked?

Changing payment details while funds are moving through the banking network can cause:

  • Failed transfers

  • Misapplied payments

  • Rejected transactions

To prevent these issues and ensure your payment reaches the right destination, edits are temporarily restricted until processing is complete.

What Should I Do?

You must wait until:

  • The payment is fully completed, or

  • The payment exits processing status

Once processing is complete, you can:

  • Update the Interac e-Transfer email address

  • Edit the payee details

Need to make an urgent change? Wait for the current payment to finish before updating any details to avoid disruption to your payment.
