Mortgage Payments with Chexy: How It Works

Pay your mortgage earn 1 Aeroplan point per $1 — plus earn Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) toward Aeroplan Elite Status. Note: Mortgage payments can only be funded from a chequing account. Credit cards are not eligible for mortgage payments through Chexy

Pay your mortgage and earn Aeroplan points.

Your mortgage is the biggest payment you make each month — and until now, it's never earned you anything. With Chexy, you pay it from the chequing account you already use and earn 1 Aeroplan point for every $1.

How it works

Mortgage payments on Chexy are set up as a recurring monthly payment — you set it up once, and it runs each month on your usual payment day. Here's an example using a $2,500 monthly mortgage payment:

Step

What happens

1. We withdraw from your chequing account

Chexy collects $2,500 plus a 1.75% fee ($43.75), for a total of $2,543.75.

2. We pay your mortgage lender

Chexy pays your $2,500 mortgage payment to your lender.

3. You earn points

You earn 2,500 Aeroplan points on your mortgage payment.

Your mortgage now counts toward Elite Status

This is the part most people miss.

Aeroplan points get you the trip. Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) get you the status — priority boarding, free checked bags, upgrades, lounge access.

Every mortgage payment through Chexy earns you both. You get 1 SQC for every 5 Aeroplan points you earn.

So a mortgage payment you were already making becomes real status progress:

Monthly mortgage

Aeroplan Points / year

SQC / year

$2,000

24,000

4,800

$2,500

30,000

6,000

$3,000

36,000

7,200

$3,500

42,000

8,400

And this stacks. Your mortgage, your rent, your bills, your taxes — every eligible Chexy payment adds to the same total.

The details: You can earn up to 25,000 SQC per calendar year in the Everyday Partners category. Only base points count toward the SQC rate.

Will this disrupt my mortgage payments?

No. Here's exactly what stays the same:

  • Same day, same amount. We withdraw from your usual chequing account on your usual payment day — never in advance.

  • Your lender gets paid the same way. The only change is which account the money comes from. You simply tell your lender you're paying from a new account.

  • No refinancing, no switching. Your rate, terms, amortization, and lender all stay exactly as they are.

What can I pay with?

Mortgage payments can only be funded from a chequing account. Credit cards are not eligible for mortgage payments through Chexy.

This is different from rent and bill payments on Chexy, where you can use a credit card. For mortgages, the payment must come from a chequing account — but you still earn 1 Aeroplan point per $1 paid.

Can I still pay my other bills with a credit card?

Yes. Mortgage payments are chequing-account-only, but rent, utilities, taxes and other eligible bills on Chexy can still be paid with a credit card as usual. Everything lives in the same Chexy account.

What does it cost?

Chexy charges a 1.75% fee on your mortgage payment amount. On a $2,500 payment, that's $43.75.

The fee is collected at the same time as your mortgage payment, in a single withdrawal from your chequing account.

How do I get started?

  1. Visit app.chexy.co/mortgages/start and set up your recurring monthly mortgage payment.

  2. Connect the chequing account you want the payment to come from.

  3. Link your Aeroplan account to your Chexy account.

  4. Give your lender your new Chexy account details so your payment is drawn from it going forward.

Please note: Your Aeroplan number must be linked to your Chexy account before your payment completes in order to earn on it. Payments made before your Aeroplan account is linked are not eligible.

Which lenders does Chexy support?

Practically all of them. Because Chexy pays your lender from your chequing account, we're not dependent on your lender having a relationship with us — which is why coverage is so broad.

Canada's major lenders

If your mortgage is with one of the country's primary lenders, Chexy supports it. That includes the big banks, credit unions, trust companies, and monoline lenders — RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, National Bank, Desjardins, Tangerine, Simplii, Equitable Bank, First National, MCAP and many more.

These are the institutions CMHC designates as Approved Lenders under the National Housing Act. You can see the full list on CMHC's website.

Newer digital lenders

Chexy also supports the newer online mortgage lenders that many Canadians have moved to, including Wealthsimple, Pine, and Neo Financial.

Don't see your lender? The lists above aren't exhaustive. If your lender accepts pre-authorized debit from a chequing account — and nearly all do — Chexy can almost certainly pay it. Set up your payment at chexy.co/mortgage, or reach out to us and we'll confirm.

Do I need an Aeroplan account?

Yes. If you're not already an Aeroplan Member, you can join for free at Aeroplan.com, then link your Aeroplan number in your Chexy dashboard.

Make sure the last name on your Chexy account matches your Aeroplan account exactly — the system is case-sensitive.

When will I see my points and SQC?

Points are awarded once your mortgage payment is complete in our system. After Chexy awards them, it can take up to 60 days for them to appear in your Aeroplan account.

Track your progress on the Aeroplan page in your Chexy dashboard. Your official points balance and SQC progress are visible when you log in at aircanada.com/aeroplan.
