Push Notifications Not Working: Troubleshooting on iOS and Android

Fix push notifications not arriving in the CoachRx mobile app. Covers OS-level permissions on iOS and Android, force-quit and reinstall steps, app version checks, and how to confirm whether the notification was delivered server-side.

Push Notifications Not Working: Troubleshooting on iOS and Android

If you or your client are not receiving CoachRx push notifications - new messages, workout reminders, lifestyle prompts - this article walks through every layer of the delivery chain so you can identify exactly where the breakdown is happening.

Quick Checklist (start here)

  1. Confirm notifications are enabled at the OS level (iOS Settings or Android Settings).

  2. Confirm notifications are enabled inside the CoachRx app (Settings > Notifications).

  3. Confirm you are running the latest version of CoachRx from the App Store or Google Play.

  4. Force-quit the app and reopen it.

  5. If still broken: sign out, uninstall, reinstall, and sign back in.

Step 1 - Check iOS Permissions

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.

  2. Scroll down and tap CoachRx.

  3. Tap Notifications.

  4. Confirm Allow Notifications is toggled on.

  5. Confirm Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners are all enabled.

  6. Confirm Sounds and Badges are enabled if you want audio/visual cues.

If Allow Notifications was off, toggle it on and send yourself a test notification (Settings > Notifications inside CoachRx).

Step 2 - Check Android Permissions

  1. Open Settings on your Android device.

  2. Tap Apps or Application Manager.

  3. Find and tap CoachRx.

  4. Tap Notifications.

  5. Confirm Show notifications is toggled on.

  6. Check each notification category (Messages, Workouts, Lifestyle) is enabled.

  7. Also check Battery settings - if Battery Saver is on, it may be throttling background delivery. Add CoachRx to your battery optimization exceptions.

Step 3 - Check In-App Settings

CoachRx has its own notification toggles separate from the OS-level controls. Inside the app:

  1. Tap your profile icon.

  2. Tap Settings.

  3. Tap Notifications.

  4. Confirm the categories you want to receive (new messages, workout reminders, check-ins) are turned on.

Step 4 - Force-Quit and Reinstall Cycle

If permissions are correct but notifications are still missing:

Platform

Steps

iOS

Swipe up from the bottom (or double-press Home), swipe CoachRx up to close. Reopen.

Android

Tap the recent apps button, swipe CoachRx away. Reopen.

If that fails: sign out, delete the app, reinstall from the App Store or Google Play, sign back in, then re-enable notifications when prompted.

Step 5 - Verify App Version

Push notification issues sometimes correlate with an older app version. Confirm you are on the latest release:

  • iOS: Open the App Store, tap your profile, scroll to Available Updates. Update CoachRx if listed.

  • Android: Open Google Play, tap your profile, tap Manage apps & device, update CoachRx if an update is available.

Step 6 - Confirm Server-Side Delivery

If the steps above don't fix it, the issue may be on the CoachRx side (device token not registered, notification not triggered). To help us investigate, send the following to coachrxsupport@opexfit.com:

  • The email address on your CoachRx account.

  • The device and OS version (e.g. iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17.4).

  • The CoachRx app version (Settings > About).

  • The exact time of a recent message or event that should have triggered a notification but did not.

  • Screenshots of your iOS or Android notification settings for CoachRx.

With those details we can check the delivery log on our end and confirm whether the notification was sent.

If This Is Your Client

If the person not receiving notifications is your client, share this article with them and ask them to walk through Steps 1-5 themselves. Steps 1, 2, and 3 fix the majority of reported cases. If they reach Step 6, have them include the same details and your coach name when they message support.
