How do card top-ups work?

A card top-up is one of the ways to add funds to your Deblock account. It’s instant, as the funds are added right after your card issuer bank approves the transaction. You can top-up using a personal debit card (or Google/Apple Pay linked to one), as long as it's registered in your name, and issued in the EEA.

To add funds with a card top-up:

  1. Open the Deblock app 📱

  2. Tap on “Add money”

  3. Choose “Card” as the method and insert your card details

  4. Enter the amount (between €50 and €1,000) and that's it!

What happens when I request a card top-up?

When you request a top-up using your debit card, Deblock instantly sends that request to your card issuer bank via VISA. The bank will then decide whether to approve or decline the transaction.

Most of the time, they’ll also initiate a 3DS (3D Secure) check to confirm it was really you who made the request. This could involve a code sent to your phone or an app notification.

👉 Just a heads-up: Deblock has no control over this process. We only get a notification from the bank saying if the top-up was approved or declined.

What is 3DS and how does it work?

3DS (3D Secure) is an extra layer of security your bank uses to confirm it's really you making the card top-up. It helps prevent fraud and keeps your money safe.

Here’s how it usually works:

  1. You request a top-up in the Deblock app.

  2. Your card issuer bank (via VISA) checks the request.

  3. Before approving, they might launch a 3DS challenge, which could look like:

    • A push notification from your bank's app ✅

    • A one-time SMS code 📲

    • A fingerprint or Face ID check in your banking app 🔐

You’ll need to complete this step quickly - there’s usually a time limit. Once that’s done, your bank decides whether to authorize the transaction.
