The same commands as text. Words in [brackets] are where you say your own value.

1. Periodontal measurements

Pocket depths

Pocket depths are the default mode for new charts. Chart continuously in groups of three, for example “2 1 2”, “2 1 3”, “3 2 3”. Chart 3 teeth at a time with minimal pause for accuracy. To go back to pocket depths, say “Start pocket depths”.

Gingival margins / recession

  • To start: “Start GM”, “Start gingival margins” or “Start recession”

  • Continuous: “1 1 1”, “0 0 1”, “1 0 0”

  • Spot charting uses the keyword “with”: “Recession with 2 on tooth 2” (one site) or “Recession with 2 1 2 on tooth 2” (all three sites)

Repeat

Say the numbers, then “repeat” and how many times: “2, 1, 2, repeat 5 times” or “5, 4, 6, repeat 10 times”. Pocket depths only.

2. Bleeding and suppuration

Bleeding

Say “Bleeding on [tooth #] [surface]”, for example “Bleeding on tooth 2 mesial distal”, “Bleeding on tooth 6 mesial” or “Bleeding on tooth 8 all”. Add “facial” or “lingual” to switch sides.

Suppuration

Say “Suppuration on [tooth #] [surfaces]”, for example “Suppuration on tooth 3 all facial” or “Suppuration on tooth 8 mesial distal lingual”.

Sextants and quadrants (bleeding and suppuration only)

  • “Bleeding on quadrant [#]”, for example “Bleeding on quadrant 1”

  • “Bleeding on sextant [#]”

  • “Suppuration on quadrant [#]”

  • “Suppuration on sextant [#]”, for example “Suppuration on sextant 4”

3. Per-tooth assessments

Furcation

Say “Furcation [grade or class] [#] tooth [#]”, for example “Furcation grade 2 tooth number 3” or “Furcation class 3 tooth number 14”.

Mobility

Say “Mobility grade [#] on tooth [#]” or “Mobility class [#] on tooth [#]”, for example “Mobility grade 2 on tooth number 9”. Bola treats “grade” and “class” the same way.

4. Navigation and control

You can use these at any time:

  • Jump to a tooth: “Jump to [#]”, for example “Jump to fourteen”. Say the number on its own, without the word “tooth”.

  • Move forward: “Next” or “Skip” (not available on Fuse)

  • Go back: “Back” (not available on Fuse)

  • Remove the last command: “Undo”

  • Turn the microphone off: “Bola stop”
