Creating interactive coursebooks from scratch
If you wish to create completely customized interactive coursebooks to use with your students, Edvibe has all the tools you need.
To start building your coursebook go to Materials ➝ Personal and click Create.
In the window that opens next, enter the title and select the language of your coursebook. Optionally, you may upload a cover or add a description for your coursebook. Enable the Sections if you want your lessons to be grouped into sections. These settings can be edited later.
Here’s what your coursebook may look like if the Sections are turned on.
Creating a lesson
Next step is to create a lesson (a unit in your interactive coursebook) and build your custom interactive exercises. Click New unit, give it a name, add a description and upload a cover (optionally), then click Save.
Adding exercises
Once you’ve created a new lesson, you will get to a preview and edit mode. Click Add an exercise and a list of exercise templates will open. Select the template you need from the menu, fill out the required fields and/or upload files. There are hints for each template that explain how to use them. Read the article on templates to get more detailed information.
Click Create and it will appear in the classroom for preview.
Add more exercises and combine the templates to shape the lesson the way you want.
Editing the exercises
Go to the contextual menu on the right of a template if you want to edit it, reset the answers, delete an exercise, change its position, copy or move it to a different section, lesson or course.
Positioning the exercises
If you want to add an exercise in between other templates, click a + button on a line between templates. A new template will be created in the selected position.
To change positions of exercises open a contextual menu of an exercise and select Change position item. Drag and drop the exercises to new positions and click Save.
Numbering the exercises
In each template there are at least 2 areas: instruction area and content area.
If you fill in the instruction field, the exercise will automatically get a number. If you want to combine multiple templates in one exercise, don’t fill in the instruction field of the template which you don’t want to give an individual number.
Default exercise numbering will go as follows: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc. If you want to start the next set of numbers (2.1, 3.1, 4.1, etc.) add a Dividing line template.
Sections
You can subdivide the lesson into sections with custom names and add exercises in different sections. The sections panel is located on the right. Click Create a new section to add a new section to the lesson.
To change the name of a section, click the Edit icon next to its name on top of the page.
To move the sections, drag and drop them to the needed position.
To delete a section, click the x next to it on the sections panel. Note that deleting a section will also delete all the exercises in it. This action cannot be undone.
There is a special section called Exercises for homework. Its content is invisible for students until assigned to them as homework. Add the exercises intended as homework there.
Returning to coursebook page
Click Back to return to your coursebook page and add more units to it. Don’t worry, your progress will be saved even if you didn’t finish building your unit.
Editing, deleting or copying units
To edit a unit, click on it on your course page or open the context menu and click Edit.
To delete a unit, open the context menu and click Delete. Warning: this action cannot be undone.
To copy a unit, open the context menu and click Copy, then select a destination.
To delete a coursebook completely, open the context menu of a book and click Delete. Warning: this action cannot be undone.
Adding a lesson to students' virtual classrooms
When in preview and edit mode, click Start a lesson, then select a student or a group. The lesson will be pinned to a selected virtual classroom. Now your students will see it.
