A VSC is a Vulnerable Sector Check. It's a police background check for people who work with vulnerable people — like the residents you'll be caring for. Your local police service carries it out.
It brings together three checks: your criminal record, any local police records about you, and a check against a list of people barred from working with vulnerable groups.
Everyone who works in nursing or support work in Ontario needs one — it's a legal requirement, not a Florence rule. Yours must be less than 6 months old when you join.
You apply through your local police service. If you live in an area with an 'M' postal code, we can help by acting as your requesting agent — that simply means we ask the police for the check on your behalf. Email us at hello.ca@florenceapp.com and we'll send you a consent form to sign. If you live somewhere else, get in touch anyway and we'll point you to the right place to apply.
