1: Why Your Card Might Be Declined
META operates with a billing threshold system: at each threshold, META will charge your card for the corresponding amount.
The thresholds increase progressively but start at €20 or €30.
For example, a €500 campaign will generate multiple €30 charges on your card, which could alert your bank. Ensure that your bank allows all payments from "META."
Here are other possible reasons for a declined transaction if your bank is not blocking it:
Exceeding your card's spending limit
Exceeding the maximum amount allowed per transaction
International payments blocked (META transactions come from Ireland)
Online payments blocked
Your bank suspects fraud due to small recurring charges
Make sure to also:
Set the payment method as the default in META (accessible via "Setup payment method" in the WAX tab)
Verify that your banking information is correctly entered (accessible via "Setup payment method" in the WAX tab)
2: How to Prevent Card Payment Issues
Beyond contacting your bank to ensure the above restrictions are lifted, we recommend adding a backup credit card in your Business Manager. This will take over payments if the primary card encounters issues.
Process:
Click on "Setup payment method"
The backup card will be used automatically if the primary card is blocked.
3: What to Do If Your Card Is Blocked
Follow these steps in order:
Call your bank to check if they are blocking META payments – this is the most common issue.
Try using another card as a payment method (same process as adding a backup card, via this link).
Pay your current balance (on the META payment page, click the "Pay Now" button).
If the issue persists, contact us via our WhatsApp or Slack groups, or book a meeting with your CSM so we can assist you.
