Write Feature Property

Write a property to a feature

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Use this when you want to attach a hard-coded or calculated value to a geometry within a flow, for example overriding unit count back onto the geometry.

How to

This is similar to write property except it assumes GeoJSON features and Giraffe Feature properties.

  1. Feed in an existing Feature.

This could be from any node that generates geometries, like read feature, get raw features, or generative nodes.

  2. Feed in a property name

This could be from a string or get feature property name

You can input the name of any property in the project, including built-in, custom, and even evaluated properties.

  3. Feed in a value to assign to the property.

This would be from any node that provides the appropriate data type to the property. For example, a property that expects a numeric value would require a number or similar.

  4. The result is the feature with the additional property + value

Example: copy a label onto another geometry

Give a new geometry the same label as an existing one, so site names, areas, and unit counts follow the shapes your flow creates. A geometry's label is stored in its marker property.

  1. Add a Read Feature Property node. Connect the geometry that already has the label, and type marker as the property.

  2. Add a Write Feature Property node and connect the new geometry to F.

  3. Type marker into P.

  4. Connect the output of Read Feature Property to V.

  5. Connect the F output to a Write Features node.

The marker property holds the whole label as one object, including its text, size, color, and position. Write the whole object to marker to copy the label as it is.
