❓ What are overstay fees?
Overstay fees are additional charges that apply when a vehicle remains plugged in at a fast charger even though its battery is sufficiently charged.
By encouraging drivers to free up their charging spot at this point, these fees help reduce station congestion, especially during busy periods, and ensure fair access to charging points for all users 🤓
🛠️ How does it work?
The overstay fees conditions vary depending on how the charging session is started.
📱 I use the Electra app, Autocharge or an Electra charging card
Overstay fees of €0.40 per minute apply when both of the following conditions are met at the same time:
The vehicle's battery has reached 80% charge
The station is particularly busy
If either condition is not met, no fees apply, even if your vehicle remains plugged in for a long time.
Once both conditions are met, you have 5 minutes to unplug your vehicle before any fees begin ⏱️
If notifications are enabled in the Electra app, you will receive:
A first notification 5 minutes before the fee starts, giving you time to unplug your vehicle
A second notification when the fee start applying
💡These conditions apply to fast chargers at Electra stations.
If you use the Electra app or an Electra charging card at another operator’s station, different pricing conditions will apply. You can check the details for each station in the Electra app before starting your charging session.
💳 I pay by bank card at the payment terminal
When starting a session by bank card, overstay fees of €0.40 per minute apply after 60 minutes of charging.
The fees start whether your vehicle is still charging or has already finished charging.
💡 These conditions apply to sessions started by bank card at the payment terminal on Electra fast chargers in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. No overstay fees apply to these sessions in other countries for now.
🪪 I use another operator’s charging card
If you use a charging card from another operator at an Electra station, the pricing conditions for your charging session are set by that operator.

💡 How to avoid overstay fees?
Enable notifications in the Electra app to be alerted and unplug your vehicle when you receive the first one.
Keep in mind that charging slows down significantly once the battery reaches 80%: it's usually the right time to free up the charger.
