❓ What are overstay fees?
Occupancy fees (also known as "Overstay fees") apply when a vehicle remains plugged in at an Electra fast charger while two conditions are met simultaneously:
The vehicle's battery has reached 80% charge
The station is particularly busy
These fees are designed to keep chargers available by encouraging drivers to unplug once their battery is genuinely full — so others waiting can access the station.
🛠️ How does it work?
1. The two trigger conditions
Occupancy fees only apply if your vehicle is charged above 80% AND the station is busy at the same time. If either condition is not met, no fees apply — even if your vehicle remains plugged in for a long time.
2. Grace period
Once both conditions are met, you have 5 minutes to unplug your vehicle before any fees begin.
3. Preventive notifications
You will receive two notifications (if enabled in the app):
1st notification: fees will start in 5 minutes — you can still unplug at no cost
2nd notification: fees are now running if you have not yet unplugged
4. Automatic billing
If the vehicle remains plugged in beyond the grace period, occupancy fees of €0.40 per minute are automatically applied and added to the cost of your charging session.

Using the Electra app to charge
Charging at a DC fast charger
📍Stations excluded from overstay fees
Some stations are out of scope: AC chargers and stations on highways, rest areas and service areas. Each station's details in the app indicate whether overstay fees apply.
💡 How to avoid occupancy fees?
Enable notifications in the Electra app to be alerted as soon as both conditions are met
Unplug your vehicle when you receive the first notification — you still have 5 minutes at no cost
Keep in mind that charging slows significantly above 80%: it's usually the right time to free up the charger, even with no fees at stake
