If you want to have just your backyard mowed, here’s what you need to know about how GreenPal's lawn care services operate and how to manage your request.

Understanding your Free Lawn Care Quotes

The lawn care companies who pay to use GreenPal’s software typically submit quotes for a complete lawn mowing service, which includes:

  • Mowing both front and back yards

  • Trimming grass around obstacles (weed-eating)

  • Edging and blowing off surfaces

Your free quotes from them assume that your grass is under 6-10 inches tall and do not usually include bagging of grass clippings. When you hire the lawn service, you can ask how much extra bagging would cost.

Dealing with Tall Grass

If any portion of your yard is over 8 to 10 inches tall, the lawn service will likely ask you to approve a surcharge (typically 50% of the quoted price) for the first mow to get your yard under control. Remember that the first mowing might not look perfect, and it may take a few mowings to get your lawn and edges back in shape.

Requesting Additional Yard Work

Once you're settled with a lawn mowing service for weekly or bi-weekly mowings, you can request additional yard work. Here's how:

  1. Leaf Removal: Typically costs about three times the mowing price.

  2. Bed Maintenance: Usually adds $10 to $20 to the mowing price.

  3. Other Services: Such as shrub trimming, mulching, weed control, and gutter cleaning, which will need to be quoted after the first mow.

Adjusting Service Preferences

While you can request backyard-only mowing, remember that lawn care companies set their prices based on a minimum trip charge, and separating front and back yard mowing typically won't reduce your cost.

Additionally, these companies are not accepting single-cut customers—they are only taking on clients for the entire mowing season, typically until the end of November.
